Mrs. Sedonia Delores Lacy was born January 4, 1924 in Bayou current, Louisiana to Mary Jane Asley-Rosette and John Rosette; both preceded her in death.
Sedonia grew up in Melville, Louisiana and New Orleans, Louisiana. Sedonia later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she married Arthur Vivian. To this union three sons were born, James Vivian, Charles Edward Vivian and William Vivian. After Arthur passed away in 1969, she later met and married James Lacy. To this union she inherited several adult children, Loretta Black (Robert), Michael Lacy, Brian (deceased), Sondra Kay Jones, Deneece Lacy and Lorrie Lacy (deceased).
Sedonia received her education in Melville, Louisiana and Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Missouri.
Sedonia professed her faith in Christ at the age of thirteen at Mt. Piqush Baptist Church. She was baptized by Isaac Minor in Mersington, Louisiana in 1937.
Sedonia lived an active and vibrant life. She was a piano student of Miss Gladys Wallace, studied voice under Mrs. Joyce Booker. She loved singing in the Senior Choir for many years. She also directed the church choir. She was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church for over seventy years. She taught Sunday School, Women’s Bible Class for over fifty years, New Members Class, Open Door Circle and teacher for Union District Wives Council. She was also active with the Washington Wheatley Neighborhood Block Club, Missouri Nurse Association, Palestine Senior Citizen Center and its Bible Study group.
Sedonia was employed as a nurse for over thirty-nine years. She worked at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana, Wheatley Hospital, Queen of the World Hospital and Menorah Hospital retiring in 1976. After retirement she worked for Dr. Nelson Johnson another four years.
Sedonia was preceded in death by Brian and Lorrie Lacy.
Sedonia is survived by her husband, James Lacy; sons, James Vivian of Kansas City, Missouri, Charles Vivian of Oxnard, California, William Vivian of Kansas City, Missouri; inherited adult children, Michael Lacy, Loretta Black (Robert), Sandra Kay Jones, Deneece Lacy; one daughter-in-law, Sally Vivian; special niece, Marie Oakman (Alfred, deceased); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 20th at Mount Calvary COGIC 2422 Van Brunt Blvd KCMO 64127. Visitation 10am. Interment Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery.
