What rejoicing there must be in Heaven, on April 29, 2020, when Ruby Irene Flanagan, made her safe flight from earth, to eternally be with her Heavenly Father. Ruby, born in Glenwood, Arkansas, on December 31, 1930 to Leslie and Geneva Burch, she was the 3rd oldest of 12 children. Ruby grew up in the area, that was known as Garfield Circle, within the Kansas City, Missouri area. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. Ruby later met and married the love of her life, Lester Flanagan, and to this union, they raised four beautiful children. Ruby’s interest consisted of, the casino, gardening, sewing, couponing, cooking, shopping and fellowship with family and friends. She was a member of Centennial United Methodist Church, until her health began to fail. Ruby retired from the Department of Veterans affairs in 1992.

To her family, she was a faithful wife, devoted mother, and a loving and compassionate grandmother, to other family, neighbors, and friends, she wore a daily accessory of love, generosity, and thoughtfulness. Ruby was never to too busy to help anyone in need, in fact her neighbors affectionally called her grandma as well, when they often stopped by for a plate of her southern soul food, an update on the Young and the Restless, and the score of the Royals game. An inspiration to everyone that she met. Ruby was always willing to share her time, and her talents, she exceeded the assignment from God, to provide encouragement, happiness, prayer, and a smile to others, with such an exuberant personality, she never met a stranger.

Ruby’s parents, Leslie Geneva Burch, her spouse Lester Flanagan, her siblings, Idelia Hayes, Willie Burch, Emma Daughtery, Leslie Sawyer, her sons, Michael and Steven Flanagan, and her bonus daughter Sharon Ford, all proceeded her in death.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Jennifer Ross Weston (James), Pamela Flanagan, of Kansas City, Missouri. Her siblings, Norma Adams, Woodstock, GA, Bobbie Manning, Nelda Young, and Tajuddin (Zahara) Nuriddin, Kansas City, Missouri.

Ruby is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Lonnie Ross, Joe Ross, Willie Ross, Renita (Nadir) Williams, and Stevens (Amber) Flanagan, Jr., 14 grandchildren, Terrell Buckau, Dionte Ross, Erionna Ross, Makayla Ross, Randy Atty II, Ryan Atty, Shanita Bustamante, Kennedi Williams, Kaleeah Williams, Kenya Williams, Summer Warren, Devante Willis, Savion Flanagan, and Elena Hughes, 6 great grandchildren, Anilya Bowens Atty, Abigail Atty, Scarlett Atty, Malaiya McKinney, Caleesi Ross, and Hakai Clark. Ruby also leaves to her mourning, TMC Long Term Care Staff, family friend Sarab Award, and a host of other friends and relatives. Ruby has fought the good fight, she has finished her course, she has kept her faith.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Linwood Chapel. Interment Forest Hill and Calvary Cemetery.
