Robert Lee Buford was born in Wildsville, Louisiana, on September 18, 1951, to L. D. Buford and Ethel Freeman Buford. He was a graduate of Sevier High School in Concordia Parish. He continued his education at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Rob was a proud Southern University alumnus. After graduation, Rob relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1977 and accepted a job with Bendix, which later became Allied Signal and is now Honeywell FMT. He was a very dedicated, knowledgeable and highly skilled professional. Rob was supervisor, manager/team manager for 36 years. He enjoyed playing baseball as a back catcher and outfielder. After retirement in 2013, he decided to take up the hobby of his brother Elbert and became an avid fisherman. In high school, he ran track and was swift in the 220 and 440 events. He was a bid whist guru known for hosting his infamous New Orleans Saints parties, having a domino showdown, and just relaxing with friends and family. The “man cave” was his pride and joy. When he was not busy fixing things with his woodworking and handyman skills, he was often seen surrounded by pink and green supporting his wife at one of her sorority events. To relax, Rob loved to spark up his grill or make a mean pot of gumbo. He loved spending time landscaping the yard and watching old Western movies. For the 20 years he and Twyla were together, Rob especially enjoyed the time they spent traveling. Rob transitioned from his earthly home on Monday, November 2, 2020. He leaves to mourn, his wife Twyla Woods Buford; children Virgil Woods (Teresa), Andrea Muhammad (Tony); grandchildren Virgil Woods II and Carissa Pinkey (Justin); great-granddaughter Arielle Bonner; siblings Lester Buford (Sheley), Elbert A. Buford, Debbie Buford, Glenda Buford, Cora Savage (Roosevelt) and Edward Bowie; aunt, Melba Higgins (Franklin), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents L.D. and Ethel Buford; brothers, Terry Buford and Wilbert Bowie; and sister-in law, Bridget Buford. A virtual memorial service was held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. CST for family and friends.
