Sonnetta (Sunny) Victoria Jefferson, 90, transitioned to glory from the home on April 24,2021. She was born on Oct. 21,1930 to the union of Sonnex & Genevieve Buie in Kansas City, Mo.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord & Saviour in her life at an early age. She attended St.Andrews Methodist Church as well as Palestine Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Covenant Memorial Baptist Church under the then leadership of her brother Pastor Gene L. Buie Sr. Later she joined Capernaum Missionary to be with her son in ministry. She enjoyed being in church and also encouraging young people to join and give their life to Christ.
She attended school in the Kansas City area, which included; R.T Cole elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School.
She loved being around her kids. She was always the focus and center of attention at family gatherings. She traveled all over the country, New York, Cleveland, Atlanta, Seattle several times over the years to visit family and loved ones. Her travels even reach over to Europe to visit Keith (oldest son) who loved there during the 80’s. A advent reader who loved her mystery and suspense novels, mainly James Patterson being her favorite.
She worked for Menorah Hospital for several years and from there she worked for the Medical Group located at 87th and Troost Ave. over 20 yrs. where she retired as the office manager, then worked for Lawrence A. Jones for 2 years as a office assistant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Keith & Kirk Jefferson, her brother Gene L. Buie Sr. and a great grandson Jovonn P. Jefferson Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories three sons Chris Jefferson (Yvonne), Clint Jefferson (Terri), Karl Jefferson (Sharon) and daughter Jovinna Jefferson all of K.C. Mo. and sister Dr. JoAnn Bradley of Brooklyn, New York 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and a host nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 202, 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00am-11:00am at the chapel.. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on or website. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings are required. Temperature check for all guest(s).
