Remembering the Life of Mrs. Norma Lee Ruffin
Mrs. Norma Lee Ruffin was born on September 28, 1942, in Boley Oklahoma the eldest daughter to the union of Sebron Green, and Effie Mae Green. Preceding her in death were: her husband Manuel Ruffin of Kansas City, Missouri, parents Sebron and Effie Mae Green of Boley, Oklahoma, siblings Pearlie Mae Grubbs, Sebron Green Jr., Leatha Mae Green of Kansas City, Missouri, and Larry Green of Boley, Oklahoma.
Norma Lee accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at New Hope Baptist Church in Boley, Oklahoma. She graduated in 1960 with honors from Boley Public High School in Boley, Oklahoma. She then attended and graduated with a Bachelors in Education, from Langston University in Langston Oklahoma. At Langston, Norma decided to join the illustrious women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. to make a difference. Upon graduating from Langston University, Norma began to pursue her Master’s Degree in Education at Webster University in Kansas City, Missouri. She later received her first teaching position at Attucks Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri as a third-grade teacher. In the process of becoming a classroom teacher, Norma became the wife to Emmanuel Ruffin in 1967. Their union brought so much love that it was poured into their three beautiful children Claude Marcel Ruffin, Chandra Yvette Abner, and LaToya Diane Ruffin.
Norma spent thirty years teaching for the Kansas City, Missouri School District. In 1996, Norma retired as an educator and began her new calling as a grandmother to five wonderful grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Norma continued to spread love and joy to children in various ministries and was a valued member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Norma spent thirty years as a counselor for the Red Circle Girls at the New Era District Youth Mission, the Child Evangelism Fellowship of the Greater Kansas City Area, and the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council Annual Leadership Recognition Committee.
She leaves her three children Claude Marcel Ruffin, Chandra Yvette Abner of Kansas City, Missouri, LaToya Diane Ruffin of St. Louis, Missouri, grandchildren Myla Ruffin, Jaylind Ruffin, Grace Banks, Leland Barnes, Karma Wilson, great grandchildren Sariah Downey, Donald Bierre, sibling’s Margaret Haddox, James Green, and a host of nieces and nephews to honor her memory.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021, 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings are required.
