Mildred Lois Crawford-Hillmon, Ms. Daisy as we affectionately called her, was born September 12, 1925. She was the eleventh of 21 children born to the union of Rev. Fletcher and Anna Buckner-Crawford in Jefferson, Texas.
She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Mission Chapel Baptist Church. She was educated at Gethsemane School and later enrolled in Wiley College in Marshall, Texas where she was one of the top debaters on the debate team.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 16 siblings, one son, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She united in marriage to Robert L. Hillmon Sr. in March 1946 and relocated to the Kansas City area in 1947.
She was employed at several businesses - Credit Bureau of Greater Kansas City as a clerk, Sydney’s Restaurant and Myron Green Cafeteria as a cook. Her final employment was as a cook at the Great Oaks Nursing Home from which she retired.
She was a life-long member of the Corinthian Baptist Church where she served as church secretary and financial secretary for a number of years. She was a member of the choir, ladies auxiliary, willing workers and other organizations for which she received accommodations.
She leaves to mourn her passing five children; Barbara J. Brown of Inglewood, California, Robert Hillmon of Independence, Missouri, Wilma L. Hardeway, Yolanda F. Smith (Rev. Pleze) and Milton K. Hillmon of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves to cherish her memory two brothers; Milton Crawford of Chino, California and James Crawford (Anne) of Kitchener Ontario, Canada, two sisters; Lee Ann Robinson of Kansas City, Missouri and Audrey Helen Marshall of Pasadena, California, twelve grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 3, 2021, 11:00am at Corinthian Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
