Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Thomas was born to the union of Lee and Alice Stamps on January 16, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mother Thomas went to glory on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Advent Health in Shawnee Mission, Kansas at the age of 76.

Mother Thomas was educated through KC public school district. She retired from Hallmark Cards after 19 years. She later opened an in-home daycare named Mary’s Place.

Mother Thomas loved working in the church and taking care of people. She devoted her life to uplifting all those around her. She loved helping and empowering single mothers to be strong, confident, women of God. She traveled to local churches on both the Missouri and Kansas side, spreading the unconditional love of God.

Mother Thomas strived hard at teaching individuals how to love their neighbors even if they didn’t agree with them. She would often say, with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.

Mother Thomas was a licensed foster parent, fed individuals without homes, clothed the less fortunate, empowered single parents, mentored troubled youth, uplifted grieving parents, and took care of the sick. She had a special touch with people, she was truly a woman of God whose works speak for themselves. She started her Christian Journey at Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop W. H. White Sr. She served on the usher and deaconess board and became a licensed Missionary. She later transferred her membership to Grace Spiritual Temple under the leadership of Bishop Charles N. Slayton. She served as President of the Missionary Board. After Grace Spiritual Temple’s dissolution, she joined Rock of Ages Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend R. L. Holt (Reverend Robin Morgan is the current pastor).

She’s survived by her husband of 50+ years Napolean Thomas Sr., 2 daughters Alyce Hannett and Sharon Williams, 1 son Napolean Thomas Jr., 9 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters Geraldine Coleman, and Sharon Moseley, Betty Stamps and 2 brothers James Stamps and Willie Stamps.

She was preceded in death by her mother Alice Stamps and daughter Jeraldine Fay Hannett.
