Jessie Mae (Henderson) Perkins, 89 made her transition to her heavenly home on May 3, 2021 at Red Wood of Blue River Rehabilitation Center.
Jessie was born on June 22, 1931 in Jennie, Arkansas to the late Freeman Henderson Sr. and Hattie Mitchell Holliday. Jessie grew up in the Kansas City, MO area and graduated from Lincoln High School, proud class of 1949!
Jessie worked several years for St. Mary’s Hospital located at 28th & Main before her retirement. She was held in high regards for her impeccable work ethic and received many commendations throughout her years of service with the hospital. She went on to work as a cook for St Mark’s Daycare where she loved preparing meals for the children. She then opened her own daycare where she received rave reviews for her love and care for the children but also for her delicious fried chicken and mashed potatoes.
She was a faithful member of St. James United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II. She was active in many auxiliaries in her church as well as being heavily involved in community organizations. She had a fond love for gardening and took pride in her vegetable and flower garden each year. She also loved baseball and would often take several neighborhood children to the Royal’s games.
Jessie was blessed with a large and loving family. She married Dale Wayne Perkins Sr. in 1956. From this union came six children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two children, Geneise and Jeffery Perkins, two sisters Pearl Reed and April Word, one brother Freeman Henderson Jr., and a special aunt and uncle, George and Minnie Dirden.
she is survived by two daughters, Glenda Hurley, and Dalena Taylor, two sons, Dale Perkins Jr.(Cheryl) and Edward Perkins, two sisters, Joella Lewis and Vicky Kimball, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will held Wednesday, May 12, 2021, 11am at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings are required indoors. Temperature check for all guest(s).
