Gloria J. Berry, 76, passed away on September 3, 2021, at KC Hospice House.
Gloria Berry, 77, passed away on Friday, September 3rd at Kansas City Hospice in Kansas City, MO. She was born on December 31, 1944, to Claiborne and O’Neal (Washington) Sykes.
Gloria grew up in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Central Senior High School in Kansas City, MO. After high school she began work for Swift & Co. where she worked for 40 years; retiring in 2004. From there she worked at the Ritz Charles Banquet and Conference Center of Overland Park for over 14 years. Gloria was quite active in various ministries in the church. However, she found the most joy serving as a door keeper in the Usher Ministry.
Gloria was the proud mother of one daughter, Stacey Denise Berry with whom she shared many adventures.
Preceding her in death was one brother, Herman E. Sykes and parents, Claiborne O. and O’Neal Sykes.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Stacey D. Berry of the home. One sister, Yvonna M. Sykes, of Overland Park, KS and one brother, Clay O. Sykes, of Austin, TX. Four nieces: Stephanie Underwood of Atlanta, GA, Rochelle j. Brown (Bryce) and Stephanie Hall (Anthony) of the city and Tiffany Estelle, of Fort Worth, TX. One nephew, Darren J. Sykes and a host of cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church at 1700 E. Linwood Blvd at 1:00 on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Visitation will be from 11:30am-1:00pm. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Service. Condolences may be shared on our website.
