Clara Jane (Moore) McDowell was born October 3, 1934, to Grace and Albert Moore in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. In September of 1953, Clara married James Alexander McDowell, who preceded her in death. They were married for sixty-seven years and had four beautiful children, one of whom preceded her in death.
Clara was born the youngest of eight children. Together with her family she attended the Church of Christ and God in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1954, she continued to devote herself to Christ. She attended Covenant Presbyterian Church where she remained a member until her death.
Clara attended Dunbar High School and graduated on May 21, 1952. She chose not to attend college; instead, she took odd jobs here and there until becoming a nursing assistant at the Veterans Affairs Hospital on January 1, 1965.
After leaving the VA on November 21, 1987, Clara dedicated herself to her family and personal endeavors, such as earning her cosmetology license. She worked as a hairdresser for a short period of time. She was a wizard in the kitchen, cooking up delicious meals especially for family dinners on Sunday.
Clara was a fiery woman with a bright personality that will always be remembered by her children: Beverly McDowell, James McDowell, Jr. (Denise), Valarie McDowell; as well as six grandchildren: Steven McDowell, Andre McDowell, Andrew McDowell, James Thornton, Ryan McDowell (Alexandria), Janel McDowell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.,
Funeral Service will be held Monday, December 6, 2021, 11:00am Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
