Obituary

Aslee Townsend was born January 20, 1927, in Tucker, Arkansas to the union of James Adams Sr. and Cora Adams.  She was the youngest child born to this union.

She was a domestic worker for the Rushfelts and the Martins for over 20 years. They loved her and she became a part of their family.

Aslee was one of the Matriarchs of the 21st and College Neighborhood for over 70 years.  Her neighborhood sons were very protected over her.  She was instrumental in helping organize the Neighborhood Block Party.  She helped nurture the children in the neighborhood and when they became grown, they kept up with her.  Some neighborhood members were able to make special food requests and she would deliver at no cost.

Aslee enjoyed travelling with her children to family reunions every summer, eating out with the family.  Her last special outing was a trip to Branson to see the play Jesus.

Aslee loved plants and had a Green Thumb and could nurture it back to life.  She had special friends in the neighborhood Edna and Maggie and three who have gone on, Ida Lee, Francis and Dimple.  She always considered Julia and Howard her adopted children, who never missed a holiday sending her a special gift.

Aslee accepted Christ at an early age in Tucker Arkansas and was a Faithful Member of Highland Baptist Church for over 70 years under the leadership of Rev. Kenneth E. Ray and after his retirement, she was under the leadership of her Son in Law, Rev. John Jones.

Aslee was the past President and Instructor of the Usher Board for many years before joining the Mother Board.  She served faithfully in other capacities of the church.  At one time, she was a part of the New Era District Ushers.

She was married to William Townsend Sr. and to this union six children were born. Later in life, she became the second mother to her grandchildren Sylvester and Tasha after the death of their parents, whom she loved and treated as her own.

Aslee departed this life June 10, 2022, at Research Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Aslee was the Captain of the Ship at 2108 College, after the death of her husband.  Her children were on the ship whom she continued to guide in the right direction.  As grandchildren came along, they were also nurtured on the ship.  Her sisters’ children were on the ship after the loss of their mother.  Other members were added because they knew this 95-year-old Captain had a lot of wisdom.  When the waves and the current seemed so fierce, she kept the ship on its course.  At 95, she continued to guide the ship with love and understanding.  She may have had a soft voice, but those on the ship, knew she meant what she said.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Belinda, brother James, son Sylvester, and her sister Odie Vee.

She lives to mourn her passing; two sons, Clarence Kansas City, Missouri and Donald of Lee’s Summit, MO; two daughters, Deborah (John), Benita (Andre); Grandchildren, LaShan (Glenn) Eran, Dashon, Donald Jr. (Tonya), Sylvester (Robyn), Tasha, Andrea, Dontae, Jordan, Shayla, Robert, Carlos, Anthony, LaShonda and Lugenia; 18 great grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
