Born Virgilene LaVette Bass this Gracious Lady made her grand entrance into the world on April 25, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the third child born to the union of father, Carmie Bass and mother, Anna Nadine Bass. Virgilene attended Manuel Elementary School ultimately graduating from Central Senior High School as part of the 1967 class. A kind and genteel person it is without a doubt that Virgie made many friends during her formative years as she continued to make many friends throughout her life.
At age 15, she began her Sunday School teaching mission at her family church, Griddine Temple. She also taught Sunday School at other K.C. churches such as Deliverance Temple C.O.G.I.C, New Life in Christ as well as churches in Georgia. Be it was through plays, songs, games or crafts Sister Virgie passionately shared the teachings of Christ with the youth.
As part of her ministry, she drove the church van for Lakeside C.O.G.I.C. which many of those reading is sure to have fond, fun and funny memories of.
Those who knew Sister Virgie were sure to be prayed for and even find themselves praying. Her prayer life was her whole life!
A burst of energy, a ray of sunshine, Virgilene was a wonderfully creative woman who put her mind to making many unique creations ranging from MC Hammer pants to an entire living room couch (ask Candie)! She lived out her days doing the things she loved best which were traveling throughout North America with the love of her life, Fred E. Fuqua, whom she joined in Holy Matrimony on April 1, 2000. Virgilene had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed growing gardens of food and flowers, hosting tea parties, excitedly learning Hebrew, sewing, quilting and spending time with her extensive family and multitude of friends.
On Thursday, May 4, 2023, Virgilene was gone on to glory. She was preceded by both parents as well as her siblings DeHavilland Arnold, Rhoda Walker and Merle Walker.
