Obituary

Roderick Kenneth “Garfield” Roland was born in Kansas City, MO May 21, 1990 to Robert Roland Sr. and Carletta Thompson. He departed this life on June 15, 2022.

He was preceded in death by both parents, Carletta Thompson and Robert Roland Sr., maternal grandparents Venita Thompson and Robert Thompson (Mary Thompson) and paternal grandparents Anna Bell Roland and John W. Roland Sr. (Rosa Lee Shelton), maternal and paternal great grandparents.

Roderick received his education in the Kansas City School District, graduating high school from Don Bosco in 2008. He was employed by 12th St Heritage. Roderick accepted Christ at an early age where he attended church at Grace Spiritual Temple under the leadership of Reverend Charles N. Slayton. He would later join Spirit of Faith and Praise FWC under the leadership of Pastor, Dr. Ronald E. Roland. 

Roderick was loved dearly by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish seven sisters Felicia Taylor (Derrick), Janell Trice (Greg), Ronnetta Thompson, Tinisha Robinson, Pamela Smith, Rachel Roland and Rochelle Roland, three brothers Carl Thompson (Joanna), Robert Roland I (Ming Young) and Robert Roland II, 24 nieces and nephews: Damion Thompson, Demetrius Thompson, Diamond Thompson, Joya Trice, Tekoyia Trice, La’Khyia Trice, Larry Shelton, Joshua Thompson, Taylor Adkins, Maron Espino, Cherelle Espino, Champell Tatum, Carl Thompson Jr., Amir Lattimer-Thompson, Armon Robinson, Gary Anderson, Oneal Curry, Favors Curry, Ethaniel Curry, Zakai Roland, Zion Roland, Nevaeh Roland, Reilyn Roland, and Rynel Roland, 36 great nieces and nephews, 8 aunts, 7 uncles, 3 special aunts Joyce Law, Geneaver Manley and Donnice Jackson and a host of cousins and friends.

Roderick’s memories and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. 

funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022, 11:00am at Mt. Calvary COGIC. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
