Robert Lee Ellis was born on November 10, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Clarence and Wilma Ellis. He was the oldest of seven children born to this union. He was affectionately known as “Bobby” to his family and friends. Bobby graduated from Central high school in Kansas City, Missouri in 1961. He served six years in the marines, and he was based in San Diego, California, where he met and married his first wife, Rosebud Ellis. They settled down in Denver, Colorado. Born to this union, were two children.
After his marriage ended, Bobby met and married Shirley Ellis, and together they raised her four children from a previous marriage, and her nephew whom she adopted. This marriage ended when Shirley passed away in December 1997.
Bobby retired from the United States Postal Service in Denver, Colorado in 2008, where he worked as a manager. He met the love of his life, Beatrice, and they settled down in Kansas City, Missouri. They loved to travel together and see the world. Most people do not know, that in the later part of his life, Bobby became very daring...he loved to zip line, parasail and jet ski!
Bobby was also very social. He was an active member of the Monday Night Players, Tuesday Night Brothers and the Pioneer Club. He thoroughly enjoyed playing cards and dominoes and laughing and joking with his friends. Bobby was also an avid Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed playful banter with his Kansas City rivals.
On July 16, 2021, Bobby peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home. His memory will be forever cherished by his loved ones; Life Partner, Beatrice Morrison, daughter, Carmen Ellis-Williams, stepdaughter, Pamela Surratt; stepson’s, Brian Surratt (Marie), Corey Machado (Ernestine), Lonnie Surratt and Andre Surratt; four sisters, Vida Ellis, Shirley Ellis, Diana Ellis and Deborah (Dee Dee) Ellis; and one brother, Al Ellis; 13 grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma and Clarence Ellis, his son, Brian Keith Ellis and his sister Lorene (Dolly) McCarther.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021,12:00pm at Fellowship Right MBC. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm at the church.
