Rickey Dean Buggs was born May 6, 1956 in Kansas City, Kansas to Littleton June and Katheryn Virginia Buggs. He was proceeded in death by his father, paternal and maternal grandparents, his sister Ellensteen “Patsy” Williams and brother Aljoyray “Ray” Buggs.
Rickey attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Kansas City, Missouri. He later transferred to the Kansas City Public Schools where he became actively involved in ROTC during his High School days. Rickey loved to read and could spell anything you asked him to spell at the drop of a dime! Our family would jokingly ask Rickey to spell the hardest words “we” thought he could not spell. Rickey would rattle the correct spelling off like it was nothing. Of course, we checked the dictionary for accuracy and he never failed! His response to us was, “Big Dummies!” Rickey was a True Blue - Royals Fan, he knew old and new players, their jersey numbers, and stats. When it was game time, he was front and centered dressed in his Royal’s apparel. His daytime favorite game shows where Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
He worked several jobs. One in particular was Putsch’s Cafeteria in the 70’s that was located off of 47th Street, Kansas City, MO. Rickey was not a stranger to anyone, and a friend to many. When he heard music, those legs would begin to move. He did not need a dance partner but would extend his hand out to welcome you to groove with him. Rickey also loved to skate. Rhythm Lane on 27th& Troost was the place to be every weekend back in those days. He loved his family and was always present to support everyone.
Rickey recently accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving mother Katheryn Buggs, daughter LaTisha Renee Todd-Buggs of Atlanta, GA, brother Anthony “Tony” Buggs, sister Cordelia June “Dusty” (John) Black, nieces, Rashaun Morris of Boston, MA, Taela Moye’ of Boston, MA, Haleigh Morris of Boston, MA, and Athena Williams, nephews Antwine (Traci) Williams Sr., Chevalier’ Moye of Orlando, FL, and Antwine Williams Jr., paternal aunt, Hattie Mae Cooper and a host of family and friends.
