Leonard “Tuff Love” Rogers was born on April 24, 1954 to Offie Rogers and Johnny Mae McGraw Rogers in Preston, MS. He was the sixth of seven children born to this union.
Leonard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and rededicated his life to Christ in the early eighties where he became a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. David L. Gray.
His formal education began in Preston, MS and when the family moved to Kansas City, KS his education continued at Northeast Jr. High and he went on to graduate from Sumner High School class of 1972.
Leonard worked for Deffenbaugh Disposal for several years until he was injured. He was determined to succeed; he refused to allow his injury to stop him from making an honest living. He began working at American Ingredients for 20 + years of service before retiring.
Leonard had a very kind spirit and he enjoyed being with his family and friends, playing cards, dominos, watching westerns, listening to the blues, and dancing. Not only did he love to cook, he was an excellent cook and considered himself the BBQ King. He also was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.
After battling from health complications, Leonard was called home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Offie “Doc” Rogers and Johnny Mae McGraw Rogers. Brothers; Virgil “BC” Rogers, Otis Warren, Roy Rogers, and Raymond “Nick” Rogers, and a sister, Ethel M. Hansard.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons; Galen Leonard (Crystal) Sauls of Shawnee Mission, KS, Don (Dominique) Carter, of Olathe, KS and one daughter; Angel Cherie “Tweety Bird” Sauls of Kansas City, KS, eight grandchildren; Keshan C. Sauls, Keron J. Sauls, Shaneka M. Anderson, Robert E. Anderson III, Kierra D. Carter, Alexis N. Carter, Julius A. Sauls, and Kya D. Carter, one sister; Oweda Love of Kansas City, KS, three brothers; Edward “Pete” Rogers, Willie “Witt” Rogers, and Alvin T. Rogers, all of Kansas City, KS, eleven great grandchildren, his one and only special and trusted friend which is the mother of 2 of his children, Shirley A. Sauls, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022,11:00am at Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, KCK. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
