Herbert Charles White, Sr. was born on April 28th,1947 to Mary Elizabeth White and Benjamin Carson in Keytesville, MO. He was preceded in death by his wif,e Shirley White, his mother and father, brother’s, Rollin White, Raymond White, Wallace White and sister, Margot Harris, sister in-law, Terry Taylor, granddaughter, Mariah Gray and grandson, Dai’jon Kyles.
Herbert grew up in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1965. Herbert enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. Herbert was an Infantryman who earned the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Parachutist Badge; Army Commendation Medal; Marksman(rifle). Herbert also enlisted in the National Guard in the years following his time in the war. Herbert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed grilling, fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing softball. Herbert received his Cosmetology License and had skills in carpentry. Herbert worked for Western Auto and GME as a computer tech for over 30 years.
Herbert(Herbie, Poppa Herb, Dad) was a family man that played outside with the kids and taught life skills to anyone he encountered. Herbert loved to watch Chiefs football with his lovely wife as a pastime as well as throwing family functions and playing music daily.
Herbert Charles White Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Herbert White II, Marlon White, Tonya Moore (Clyde), Sherell Clemons (Leon), Nichole Grant, Charles Brown(Shannon), Ivy Gray(Anthony), Angela Grant, Dontay Ross Brown and Antone Grant(Kiszy), his 39 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren, his sister, Priscilla Cox (Micheal), his sisters in-law, Deborah Harris(William) and Jacquline Jacobs(Walter) and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19, 2023, 1pm at Mt. Calvary COGIC. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
