Clifford Eugene Smith (Cliff) was born October 9, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas to Mae E. Smith (Hawkins) and James Smith. After a long battle with cancer, Clifford was called to his Heavenly Resting Place with the Lord on April 2, 2021. He was proceeded in death by his father, James Smith; son, J.C.; nephew, Keith Smith, niece, La’Keshia Smith; and brother, Samuel Smith.
Lively and active, Cliff was the fourth of eight children. He initially attended Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri before transitioning into the workforce at a young age. He began working for the City of Kansas City, Missouri in 1970. During the course of his employment at the City of Kansas City, Missouri, he worked for the Water Department and later went to the Parks & Recreations Department. After 23 years of service, Cliff retired from the City during 1993.
It was on September 11, 1970, that Cliff married Christine J. Taylor. To this union, four children were born, Clifford Eugene Smith, Jr. (Cliffy); Kenneth Lamont Smith; Corey Lanette Smith, and Kelly Joyel Smith.
Fun-loving, humorous, and of a giving heart is how Cliff was known by family and friends. He was always helping the family with various tasks. He loved watching sports, listening to music, cooking, attending family functions, wearing stylish clothing, and good food! It was not uncommon to find him playing various competitive card and board games, video games, and dominoes with family and friends. A mild-natured man of few expressions, he truly loved his children and family!

Carter, Jr., Keneesha Duncan, Taylor Kennedy, Trent Smith, Dominique Lowery, Chapele Lowery, Tyson Carter, Aaron Carter, Nalayah Pappas, Araia White, Trinity Dodd, Aaliyah Dodd, Raelea Emsweller, Talon McFarland, Amari White, King Marion White, Amiya White, and Sir Major Lee White; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Siblings, Big Sis and caregiver, Wanda Bowman, James (Sandra) Smith, Betty Ross, Debra Smith, Ruth Smith, and John (Jennifer) Smith; very special friend and caregiver, Barbara Harlin; and a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, family and friends.
Funeral services will held Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 11:00am at Grace Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00am-11:00am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings are required.
