Obituary

Lula Mae Lampkin, was born on March 4, 1927, in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Willie Loften and Tommie Lee Winfield from Canton, MS.  She was the oldest of four children and the only girl. They all preceded her in death. Lula passed away July 18, 2020 in her home with family. Lula attended Linwood School in her early years. She later gave birth to her first daughter Velma in 1947 and her second daughter Bobby in 1949. She later met and marry Arthur Ransberry and the family moved to Kansas City, Mo in 1955. Lula worked at Don Gaines Poultry for several years until she began working for Betty Rose Clothing Manufacture as a seamstress for many years until she retired. After retirement Lula married to Vance Lampkin in 1978. Lula was a life-long member at Mariah Walker A.M.E. Church where she was a member of the Missionary Society.

She was also the Block Captain within her neighborhood by making sure her neighbors were cared for and their lawns were well groomed. Lula was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was a Great Cook, Gardner and Seamstress and cooked lavish spreads and meals in her home. And she always ensured whomever who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving daughters Velma L. Jarrett and Bobby Rice; sister in law; Lona C. Harris, great nephew; Christopher A. Harris; great nieces; Keya M. Harris-Divinity and Damane’ M. Harris; four grandchildren; Jules A. Collins, Kim N. Loften, Kristy D. Loften and Eddie D. Rice (Jacqueline); nine great-grandchildren, Elgin L. Edmondson, Tracy B. Miles, Aaliyah U. Collins, Jon Paul J. Collins, Koby Collins, Sincere A. Collins, Kristian A. Loften, Chaz Collins, Jayde D. Rice.
