Obituary

Mr. Henry Cecil Gant was born Little Rock, AR. to Mary Ivory Fowler Gant and Isaac Gant, Sr. Henry was the 6th child of 12 children. His  parents brought the Gant family to the Kansas City, Kansas area. Henry’s father sent for his family in the 40’s. Everything was taking care of. Henry worked at General Motors and lived at 614 New Jersey KCK. Henry gave his life to God at an early age with his parents standing with him. He was given two nicknames; L.C. and Wolf (as his eldest brothers would call him). Henry went to Douglas Elementary, Northeast and Sumner High School. He started playing drums at the early age of 6. He started fixing his own hair, made his on perm and styled waves. He never went to a barber. He even went as far as to style other men’s hair as well. He was his own man in MO. And Topeka, KS.

Henry left home to play in the band with James Brown, King Alex & The Untouchables, Lawrence Wright & The All Stars and many other bands. L.C. had a voice of his own given from God. He created his own songs and played the drums to them. He played from his mind, body and soul. Henry was born left handed and used his left at mostly everything. L.C. was a very gifted and special man. He just used all of what God gave him. Henry played at Thanksgiving breakfasts, parties, clubs and concerts. L.C. was one of the best drum players around. He married BeBe Burbs. Henry was preceded in death by his daughter that he loved to pieces, Aldo Gant, Micheal Martins, Kenneth Martin and step children.

He leaves to cherish his memories; 1 daughter, 7 sisters, 2 brothers and a host of loving nieces, nephews who lived in the KCK area. 2 sisters, Ms. Ollie Gant, Mae Gant and Geraldine Gant. Henry was inducted into the Kansas Mosaic Hall of Fame in 2016 and Kansas Blues Society. Mr. Henry Cecil Gant made playing drums his life.
