Ethel Lee Marshall lived a marvelous and wonderful life. Born December 26, 1929 in Jonestown, MS to the union of William and Emma Lee Thomas. She was the youngest of nine children. In search of a better life, her siblings ventured to Los Angeles, Chicago, and Kansas City. Kansas City is where she decided to call home.
In Ethel’s early years she worked in the dry cleaning industry and in her later years as an extraordinary cook. She was employed by Niles Home, Children Mercy Hospital, and Research Medical Center where she retired. She came to know Jesus Christ at an early age and attended Friendship Missionary Baptist Church for several years. She continued her Christian Journey at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ where she became one of the first three females to be a part of the Board of Trustees and she faithfully served on the Usher Board.
Although she didn’t graduate with a high level of education through the traditional school system, you could swear that she had a PHD in Finance. In the eyes of her family, she was very successful. When it wasn’t popular, she managed to acquire two homes, nice cars and kept an immaculate home with the finest of everything. She raised three beautiful daughters to be independent. As so many Grandmothers often do, she was instrumental in raising her grandchildren as well.
She was our Fierce Leader and the Matriarch of our family. She loved her family dearly. She will be deeply missed as another part of our small knit family has departed. In Heaven, she has reunited with her mother and father and all of her siblings along with two daughters, Dimple Marshall and Frankie Hill.
She leaves to cherish and honor her memory: her daughter, Ethelrine Suber, step-daughter Augusta Wilson, four grandchildren, Teddy Marshall, Alphonso Thomas, Precious Hill, and Lisa Marshall; two great-grandchildren, Angel Hill and Feymon Hill and two great-great-grandchildren, Tyrone McGee and Micah Cummings, and a host of close family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Monday, November 16th at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Linwood Chapel. Visitation 10am. Interment Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery.
