Obituary

DEBORAH ANN CUBIT

Determined, Effervescent, Beautiful, Open-hearted, Radiant, Authentic and Heartwarming, "Debbie", was all that and more. To know her was to love her, to love her was to love the Lord. Throughout her life she had a vibrant spirit that welcomed everyone she encountered. Deborah Ann Martin was born on September 7, 1952. She was the first of four children born to Florence Irene Martin, in Kansas City, MO. Her mother and both brothers, Frank and Sidney Martin proceeded her in death. Affectionately known as "Debbie" she graduated from Manual High School in 1970. While attending high school, Debbie met Rennie Gordon and shortly after they were married. Two daughters were born out of this union; Lela (Renee) and Renna. She was a member of Zion Grove Baptist Church where she taught her children the importance of loving God. Directly after high school Debbie held employment with the Housing Development Corporation (HDCIC), where she was a receptionist for 7 years. In 1978 she started her career at Bendix as an electronic assembler, where she worked until her retirement in 2008; which was later renamed Honeywell. Before she retired, she went back to school to further her education and graduated from UMKC with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts. This is where her love of children blossomed, which sparked other opportunities to work in education. She worked with LINC throughout the Kansas City Missouri School District as well as a summer counselor with Swope Corridors located at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Debbie was a member of Trinity Temple Church of God in Christ for twenty-one years, were she served as the choir president for seventeen years. Being a faithful member of Trinity, her passion for the love of God grew. This is where she learned love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Throughout the years, she continued to serve God which lead her to become a member at Fellowship Right Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities. She served on various committees, such as the Motherboard, Outreach Committee and currently as the Choir President. While at Fellowship Right, she understood that God's grace is sufficient and learned how to stand on the promises of God's word. For Debbie, Fellowship Right was not just a church, but FAMILY. When you think of Debbie, you will always be reminded of her vibrant smile, warm hug and gentle voice. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 37: 25; I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Debbie leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughters, Renee Stevenson and Renna Gordon both of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Rickey Lee (Didi), Shyann Stevenson of Columbia, MO, and Zion; great-grandaughter, Mylah Storey-Altema; sister, Katherine Martin (Anthony); and a special aunt, Pauline Martin. Honorary grandchildren, Cymetria Dillard of Houston, TX; Britiany Standford of Dallas, TX; Saundrea Smith, Natalia Robinson, and a host of family and friends.
