Obituary

Carolyn Sue McNeal passed away on December 30, 2020 in the comfort of her home with her daughter at her side.  Carolyn was born on September 14, 1944 to Bo Howard and Ora Mae Price.  Carolyn was the third child born to this union. Carolyn grew up in Kansas City, Kansas.  She graduated from Sumner High School in June 1962.  Shortly thereafter she began her career at KU Medical Center where she worked as a nursing supervisor for thirty years.  

Carolyn also worked in collections for fourteen years.  During this time, she also attended college at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Carolyn married the love of her life on August 23, 1965 in Miami, Oklahoma.  They remained good friends until her death. Carolyn had exceptional taste and class and a style of her own. 

 She was known for her trademark and red corvette.  She enjoyed gardening and shopping.  Carolyn was always a lady and demanded excellence from all. Carolyn enjoyed her grandchildren and spent countless hours with them. Carolyn was a trendsetter and always pushed those around her to do their best. Carolyn’s name for herself was “Sapphire”. Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, Edward W. McNeal, grandson, Davyon S. Coates, her brothers, George Howard Price and Coary Price and her sisters, Judy Price Howard, Diana Price Fantroy.

Carolyn is survived by William J. McNeal; daughter, Shanna Lynn Coates; grandchildren, Ciyanna Claiborne (Milton), DeWayne Coates, Jr. (Tawanna), Dwone Coates, Destini Coates; siblings, Lillian Price Hunter of Denver, CO, Lena Price Moss of Rosamond, CA, Lynda Faye Billups of Seattle, WA, Diane Moore (Theodore) of Denver, CO; aunt, Beverly Bizer of Topeka, KS; ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 9th at  Mount Calvary COGIC 2422 Van Brunt Blvd KCMO 64127. Visitation 10am. Interment Highland Park Cemetery.
