Obituary

Charles Edward Ward was born August 24, 1928 in Lexington, Missouri. His parents were

Arthur Burton and Leona Ward. He was the eldest of four children that Leona Ward had. Charles age 91, made his peaceful transition home to be with the Lord on Sunday August 23, 2020. Both parents, siblings Edgar Ward, James Ward, Betty Ward and great grand-son Anthony Jamar Ward preceded him in death.

 

In 1945, when Charles was seventeen years old, he joined the Army. He served in the Anti-Aircraft Division. He was stationed in Yokohama, Japan. In 1947, Charles returned home from his tour of duty. He returned to high school and graduated in 1948. 

 

In 1949, Charles married Lillie Mae Jones (Childress). Out of that union Aaron A Ward was born. After ending that union, he married Anne Lou Harrison in 1955. They were married for fifty-six years until she was called home to be with the Lord in January 2012. Out of that union Marieta A (Ward) Clayton and Carlos E Ward were born.

 

Charles confessed his belief to Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of Gregg Tabernacle AMEC Church. In 1984, Charles attended college part-time at Penn Valley Community College. He received an Associate Degree in General Studies in 1988. He received a Degree in Addiction Counseling in 1989 which he volunteered as an Addiction Counselor for many years.

 

Charles was employed by Burlington Railroad in 1955 as a railroad car mechanic. He continued to work there until he retired in 1989. Later on, Charles began attending AA meetings and eventually became a counselor. He would always say “Keep showing up, it does work if you work it”.  He was very faithful until his health started to fail. Charles was always willing to give anyone a helping hand.

 

Charles loved to tell parables (stories) about life lessons he wanted you to remember. He always wanted to make everyone laugh. He would say “Did you help someone today”. Do it because you know it is the right thing to do.

 

Charles also leaves behind his children: Aaron A Ward Sr., Marieta A Clayton (Artie), Carlos E Ward; grandchildren: Aaron A Ward II, Crystal Ward, Arthur Clayton Jr., Janelle Riddle (Maurice), Charles V Ward, Dominick D. Ward; 9 great-grandchildren and  2 great-great grandchildren. Special thanks to his nephew Courtney Ward, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 29th at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Lawrence A. Jones Linwood Chapel from 9:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M.
