Mr. Andrew Edward “Jack” Boles, 87, ascended from earth on September 4, 2020 peacefully in his home. Mr. Boles was born September 14, 1932 in Bentonia, Mississippi to the late Mr. & Mrs. Henry and Lurline Boles. He was the eldest of four children, Lanzo, Laulena, and Bernice, born to this union.
He relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1947 and began working at Sheffield Steel Company. In the mid 1950’s he and his brother, the late Lanzo Boles, Sr. owned and operated their first auto repair shop. In 1961 Jack, as he was known as, opened the APCO full-service gas station and Hilltop Auto Shop on 31st street. In 1970 he added the Hilltop Car Wash to his list of businesses.
Mr. Boles was a prominent businessman for many years. He encouraged children to stay in school and would give them candy in the mornings at his auto repair shop on 59th and Prospect as they walked to school or to their bus stop as an incentive to have a good day.
Andrew married the late Alice S. Burns October 15, 1969 and to this union a daughter, Alexis, was born. The family worshiped at Spruce St. Matthews Baptist Church for many years. In 1982 the family united with Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ where he attended until his health prohibited his attendance.
He leaves to cherish and continue his legacy, devoted daughter and caregiver, Alexis Boles, of the home; Daughters: Shirley (Calvin) Earham, Rockford, IL; Audrey “Cookie” White, Milwaukee, WI; and Carla Williams, Grandview, MO; Sisters: Bernice Boles and Latrice (David) Smith, Kansas City, MO; Sister in laws: Ella Boles and Emma Holman, Kansas City, MO; Eight grandchildren, Seventeen great-grandchildren, and Six great-great grandchildren; Aunt: Marie Addison, Kansa City, MO; in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, Special Cousin: Viola Fair, Detroit, MI; Best Buddies: Pearl Simmons and Herb Shipp, Kansas City, MO.
Public Memorial Services will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 13th at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Linwood Chapel 1800 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64109. Private Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 14th. Visitation 11:00 A.M. Interment Mount Moriah Cemetery.
