Willie Mae (Weathers) Liggans

Obituary WILLIE MAE(WEATHERS) LIGGANS was born September 21, 1925 to the union of Johnnie and Lessie Southhall Weathers in Elton, LA. She was the oldest of two children born to this union. She also had a half-sister. Willie Mae accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. James Catholic Church for many years. At the time of her passing she was a member of Park Ave Baptist Church. After 94 years of life, she took her walk to glory peacefully in the comfort of her loved ones on April 26, 2020. Her father, Johnnie Weathers, mother Lessie Mae (Phillip) Williams, husband George H. Liggans, Sr., son George H. Liggans, Jr., brother Johnnie Weathers, and half sister Annie Lee Weathers, granddaughter, Jeanette C. Liggans, grandson and Anthony J. Liggans, all preceded her in death. Willie Mae attended and graduated from high school in Louisiana. She earned her cosmetology license from the state of Texas. On August 18, 1943 she married her sweetheart, George Harold Liggans. To this union five children were born. They later moved to Kansas City where she was an entrepreneur and owned a candy store and florist shop. Willie Mae was also a licensed beautician and seamstress and owned a hair salon and tailor shop in the greater Kansas City area. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, watching her “cooking” shows on television and visits from all her grandchildren. She cooked the best spaghetti and potato salad in all the Midwest and back in the day she was well known for her notorious “rent parties” where she sold fish and chicken dinners. Willie Mae worked hard her entire life and was a devoted wife, dedicated mother and loving grandmother. Her memory will be forever cherished by her three daughters; Sandra Marie Liggans, Debra Lene Liggans and Lessie Mae Liggans, one son; Karl Edwards Liggans, Sr., nineteen grandchildren; Bonita, Chinita, Desiree, Darlene, Lisa, Lakisha, Erica, Kyaria, Karl, Jr., Kalvin, Jasmine, Brittany, Frank, Jarone, Michelle, Jacob, Janae, GQ, and Romeo, thirty one great grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Park Avenue Baptist Church 3601 Jackson Ave. KCMO. Visitation 10:00 A.M. Interment Brooking Cemetery.
