Ms. Willie Mae Holmes

Mae Holmes departed her earthly home on Thursday, July 2, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born on September 15,1950, in Ashdown, Arkansas, to Willie Hooks and Nellie Duckett. Mae graduated from Forman High School in Forman, Arkansas, in 1968. Following graduation, she relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, and later moved to Addison, Illinois. Eventually, she returned to Kansas City, where she made her home and spent the remainder of her life surrounded by family, friends, and the community she loved. Mae was passionate about serving others and took great pride in volunteering. Throughout her life, she received numerous awards and recognitions for her service with organizations such as The Salvation Army and Special Olympics. She also proudly served as a poll worker during local, state, and national elections, always believing in the importance of civic engagement and giving back to her community. During her years in Illinois, Mae worked as a school bus driver. She took special pride in being certified to transport children with special needs, a responsibility she embraced with compassion and dedication. In addition, she earned several medical certifications that reflected her commitment to helping and caring for others. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Hooks and Nellie Duckett, and her siblings, Henry, Donald, Issac, Leslie, and Maenell. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Roderick (Sharon) Holmes, and Marcus Johnson; her beloved grandchildren, Rakeisha (Ellie) Crosby, Darian Holmes, Shantaja Heath, Cydnee (Desmond) Nevels, Sharel Heath, and Laurel (Shanequa) Heath; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Ernestine Nelson, Tyrone Hooks, Wilma Gibson, Danny (Asla) Hooks, Shirley, Ernestine, Willie, Thelma, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Right Baptist Church 4700 Pittman Road KCMO 64133. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery.
