Ms. Vivian Ewell

Vivian E. Dennis-Ewell was born July 12, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John J. Dennis and Margaret Lucille Dennis. She was the fifth of six children. Vivian fell asleep in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. Vivian was preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, Arletha Curns and Leola Houston; three brothers, Clifford Dennis, Leroy Dennis and James Dennis; her husband, David A. Ewell;and her son-in-law, Earnest J. Riley. Vivian received her education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District and was a 1948 graduate of Lincoln High School. She attended National Institute of Nursing for two years and completed her State Board exams, where she graduated as an LPN in 1950. Vivian began her career at St. Joseph Hospital from 1951 until her retirement in August of 1993. She also worked at Center High School for eight years as Cafeteria Coordinator. Vivian was married to the late David A. Ewell for 41 years, and to this union they had one daughter, Margaret Ann Ewell. Vivian accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of eleven at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, in Kansas City, Missouri, which was her one and only church home throughout her lifetime. She served under the leadership of Pastor P.T. Houston, Pastor Claude High and Pastor Calvin Buford. Vivian was a devoted and faithful member of her church for over 80 years and was recognized and honored in 2015 as the oldest member. She served as the late Pastor Claude High’s secretary, as well as Mother Board President. Vivian also received membership under watchcare in 2022 at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Donald W. Givens. Vivian leaves to forever cherish her memory her loving devoted daughter, Margaret Ewell-Riley of Raytown, Missouri; one grandson, John David Ware of Las Vegas, Nevada; one sister-in-law, Jean Dennis of Kansas City, Missouri; one childhood friend Rose Smocks; best friend Adele Galloway; nieces and nephews from Missouri and Tennessee; bed-check buddy Bertha Morris; Swope Parkway Estates friends; and a host of adopted sons and daughters from both St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. She was loved by all, but we know that God loved her best. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00am at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church . Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am-11:00am at the church. Service Conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
