Mr. Tony J. Young, Sr.

Obituary Tony Jerome Young Sr., 63, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, surrounded by family at the Northcare Hospice House. Tony was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Allen Young Jr. and Louise Jerman Young. He was preceded in death by his father, Allen Young Jr., two brothers, James Young and Marion Smith, and one son, Marvin Clark, Sr. Tony lived in Kansas City most of his life. He was educated in the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools attending Milton Moore Elementary, Central Junior and Senior High Schools. A well-rounded athlete, Tony found his niche in football. His skill and tenacity led him to become an All-State Defensive End while attending Central High School and opened a door for several collegiate football scholarships. Of his many options, Tony chose Tucson, Arizona, where he attended the University of Arizona and became a Wildcat for life. Through the years, Tony wore several hats. He was employed by UMB and Commerce Banks, as well as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). While working at the IRS, Tony met Hazel Harvey. On July 11th,1992, they married in Kansas City surrounded by family and friends. In addition to his career, Tony was a jack of all trades. Known for painting, he could be seen early in the morning, scoping out his jobs and making plans. Before you knew it, he had a ladder against the house and the work began. He had a passion for growing fruits and vegetables in the garden and smoking meat on the grill in the summer was a favorite pass time. If you knew Tony, you know that family meant everything to him. If he told you he was going to be somewhere, he was there by whatever means. He was at every family gathering wearing his Kangol and was always ready to play a game of dominoes. Most of all, his love for family was evident in his love for his children, those that he fathered and those gained through love and marriage. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Hazel Harvey-Young, his mother, Louise Young; three sons, Daryl Hoskins; Tony Young Jr.(Feness), Austin, TX; Elder Edwon Edwards; four daughters, Louise R Young; Rachenda Harvey; LaTrece Harvey (Jamal); Dionne Edwards, Des Moines, IA; one brother, Leon Young Sr.(Tina); four sisters, Suvellia Boggs; Leeunice Smith-Washington(William); Janet Hams; Stephanie Smith, Houston, TX; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren, two special uncles, Alphonso Young,Tulsa, OK; and George Jerman; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, 11:00am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the chapel.
