Mrs. Sybil Dixon

Mrs. Sybil Dixon, 61 passed away on Feb. 11, 2025, at Menorah Medical Center. Sybil Dixon was born on November 6, 1963, in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert and Beverly Blackwell. At an early age, Sybil accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized at Mt. Transfiguration Missionary Baptist Church, on Palm Sunday, March 23, 1975. Raised in Kansas City, Sybil attended Graceland Elementary, St. Therese Little Flower and graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1982. She then attended the University of Missouri, Kansas City. As a very young child, Sybil was very creative, often designing elaborate wardrobes for her doll collection. She also wrote and produced plays and “required” the participation of her siblings and friends. She played piano, was active in drill team and choir and as a young adult was an avid roller skater, and loved to travel. Sybil was united in marriage to Michael Dixon, Sr. on July 7, 1990. They were blessed with three children. She loved her children dearly and was extremely proud of all their many accomplishments. One of her most joyous experiences was becoming a grandparent. Her grandchildren were her heart’s delight. Sybil enjoyed working in the field of education and started her career in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She worked for many years at Border Star Elementary and at Harold Holiday Montessori and Central Middle School. In June of 2009, as her young family was becoming more active, and to be closer to home, she joined the Lee’s Summit School District as Attendance Secretary at Lee’s Summit High School. Sybil was preceded in death by her parents, Robert D. and Beverly K. Blackwell, and her brother, Robert D. Blackwell, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Michael Dixon, Sr., and daughter, Alexis Dixon, of the home; sons, Michael Dixon, Jr., Tunisia, North Africa; and Jarred Dixon, Providence, Rhode Island; grandson, Michael Dixon, III; and granddaughter, Miriam Dixon, Athens, Greece; sisters, Jan Acklin (Maurice); and Allyson Blackwell, Lee’s Summit, MO; and Angel Blackwell, Kansas City, MO; her father and mother in-law, Robert and Vera Dixon, El Cerrito, CA; brothers in-law, Jerry Presley, Vallejo, CA; and Greg Dixon, Long Beach, CA; dear nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and cherished friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 7, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church 5111 Harry Truman Drive Grandview, MO 64030. Interment: Brooking Cemetery.
