Obituary What more can we say? Job well done Sandra Ann (Canady) Ricks-Martin. Sandra was born January 5, 1953 in Cleveland, AR to the union of Clarence Canady and LQ (Byers) Canady. She was the youngest of five children. Sandra had a true desire for knowledge and education. She graduated from Paseo High School in 1971, and although she may not have many degrees, she was known for her wealth of information and wisdom. Sandra believed in the power of God and studied the Word fervently. She was a long-time member of Central Christian Church in Kansas City, MO where she served on many committees and sang in the choir. Her faith fueled her resilience. “Ms. Sandy” had a passion for serving families. Her reputation for paying attention to detail and dedication to quality superseded her. Sandra began her career in the funeral industry at a young age with Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel, and she gave nearly 50 years of her life to ensuring that each family she touched received the love and compassion they deserved. Sandra served in many areas of leadership, providing her expertise as manager and funeral director at Mrs. J.W. Jones Memorial Chapel and Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. She held the offices of secretary and vice-president of the Missouri-Kansas Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association and received her certificate for 25 years of service from the Missouri State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association. Sandra was also a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association for many years. Her career is a true testament of commitment. “Nana” loved her family most and gave everything she had into loving them. Shortly after high school she married, Earl Ricks, Jr. and to their union Kenshasha Ricks-Williams was born to which five grandchildren were also born; Imani Williams; Malik Williams; Jamila Williams; Anaya Ricks-Gaiter and Zhaire Ricks-Gaiter. Later in life Sandra married Roy Martin who proceeds her in death, to which Rori Martin-Thompson (Michael) was born. Rori has three beautiful children; Cheyenne Curtis; Glorius Martez Robinson; and Micah Thompson. “Aunt San” leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces and nephews. “San” also leaves to mourn five brothers: Elvin Canady (Wanda) of Hot Springs, AR; Burnell Canady (Ruby) of Conway, AR; Malvin Canady of Kansas City, MO; Clarence Canady of Kansas City, MO; and Maverick Canady of Kansas City, MO; and four sisters: Lee Atha Black (Robert) of Kansas City, MO; Melverine Williams (Earl) of Booneville, MO; Delores Ross of Kansas City, MO; and Erma McDaniel (James) of Kansas City, MO.
