Obituary Ruby Jean Murcey- Patterson was born December 24,1934 in Franklin, Louisiana to the parents of Segrest Murcey Sr. And Janie Finister. All formative education was gained and lived in Franklin, Louisiana and Kansas City, Missouri. She accepted Christ as her Savior early in life as a Southern Baptist in the early sixties'. Ruby joined St. Stephens Baptist church under the Leadership of Reverend John W. Williams, with compassion and love Ruby enjoyed singing, shouting, and praising in the St. Stephens women's choir. She would always say “Thank you, JESUS! You have brought me a mighty long way.” Ruby went on later and joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend L. Henderson Bell, she continued to sing in the choir and dance on the Senior Citizen praise and dance team. She was employed at Vitale’s Restaurant as a cook, and later became a longtime Employee at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Missouri as a Chef. Ruby made the decision to join her then husband Mr. Willie Patterson on becoming the co-founder and owner of Grandma Candy Kitchen and running it out of their home for fifteen years, she became known throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area by many, for her famous Soul food cooking. Her Peach Cobbler, roaring 20’s burgers, pork chops, chicken wings, milk shakes and her penny candy had become the talk around the city. Ruby was united in holy matrimony to her first husband George Clark. When that union expired, she then married the love of her life in 1951 to Willie Patterson. Out of these two unions, a total of 16 children were blended. After that, the marriage dissolved. Ruby later remarried in 2012 to Larry Weathersby, no children or stepchildren were gained in this union. Ruby Murcey - Patterson will be preceded in death by both parents; her Grandmother Thema Atkins; her sons, Steven Murphy; Louie L. Clark; Charles Patterson; Richard Patterson; William Patterson. Daughters, Janie Abram; Linda C. Clark-Betts; Doris Patterson. Three Grandsons; and host of other Grandchildren, family, and relatives. She leaves to Cherish her memories with her current husband, Larry Weathersby, sons George E. Murphy; (Jessie) William Michael Clark; daughters Brenda J. Murphy-Taylor; Janice Winston (Jonh); Vonita Baker (Eddie); Delores Tobert; Vickie A. Patterson; Willetta R. Hamilton; and host of Grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great-grandchildren; three nieces; a host of other relatives. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, 11:00am at Mt. Pleasant MBC. Interment Forest Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
