Ms. Audrey M. Johnson

Audrey M. Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. She was born on April 1, 1947, in Raleigh, Mississippi, to Ivy Morgan and Lucille Kidd. From the very beginning, Audrey was a fighter, overcoming the challenges of segregation and oppression. She spent much of her early childhood with her beloved maternal grandmother, “Madea,” before eventually moving north to be with family. In 1959, at the age of 12, Audrey relocated to Kansas City to live with her older sister, Ivy, affectionately known as “Sis.” It was during this time that she welcomed her first niece, Jaime Morgan, whom she loved as a daughter. Audrey’s love for her family continued to grow as she embraced her nieces, Ivy Lynn Junior and Tracy Mason, and her nephew, Keith Junior, as her own children. Jaime later welcomed a son, Justin Junior, further expanding the family Audrey cherished deeply. Audrey was a proud graduate of Manual High School in Kansas City, earning her diploma in 1965. In 1968, she began her career at Western Electric in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, where she worked diligently until her retirement in 1984. That same year, Audrey married John L. Johnson, and in 1969, they welcomed their only child, Kimberley Ray Johnson. Their love story was unique, as they married multiple times before finally parting ways in 1980. Audrey was deeply devoted to her faith and, in 1985, began worshiping at Unity Village, Missouri, where she remained a dedicated member for the rest of her life. She was also committed to lifelong learning, attending Metropolitan and Longview Community Colleges in the 1980s to study business and liberal arts. Her passion for spiritual growth led her to pursue intensive Biblical studies. Audrey and John took great pride in their daughter’s education, sending Kimberley to Notre Dame de Sion High School, from which she graduated in 1987. They were even prouder when she went on to study at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and later graduated from American University in 2000. One of the greatest joys of Audrey’s life was becoming a grandmother. On November 10, 2008, Kimberley gave birth to Audrey’s first and only grandchild, Taylor Audrey Genell Duncan, who brought immense happiness to her life. In her final two years, Audrey resided in Hanover, Maryland, with her daughter and granddaughter, surrounded by love. Audrey was preceded in death by her former spouse, John L. Johnson; her sister, Ivy Junior; her niece, Jaime Morgan; and her parents, Ivy Morgan, and Lucille Kidd. She leaves behind her beloved daughter, Kimberley; her cherished granddaughter, Taylor; her nieces and nephews; and numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and dear friends in Kansas City, Detroit, Chicago, and Mississippi. Audrey’s life was one of faith, love, and resilience. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Unity Village 200 Unity Circle Lee Summit, MO 64086. Interment: Mount Moriah.
