Mr. MICHAEL L. COLBERT

Obituary A life that touched others with peace and love has come to an end on March 27, 2021. Michael Lane Colbert was the fifth child born to James and Reola Colbert on September 15, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. Michael was baptized at age nine where he was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church. He became active in Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and an Ambassador for Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Michael excelled academically in every subject, while he was an Honor Roll Student at Booker T. Washington Elementary School. Michael graduated in the Top Ten Percent of his class at Central “Eagles” Highschool in 1969. He was voted, “Most Likely to Succeed” by the seniors’ in his graduating class. After graduation, Michael enlisted into the United States Air Force in the year 1970. Michael worked in the area of transportation. This is where he developed an admiration for planes and a deep love for automobiles. Michael owned his first new automobile at age 20. It was an Oldsmobile, Delta ’88! Michael was known for his great sense of style. He dressed neatly and eloquently. Some people knew him for his love of music, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and a variety of Jazz musicians. He was also a creative and talented artist and painter. Recently, Michael won 3rd Place in a National Painting Competition. Many knew him best for his no nonsense, outspoken, direct, yet caring personality. He often gave advice to young people. Michael was affectionately known by young people as Uncle Mike. Michael Loved the Lord. He remained active in Bible Study classes where he lived in Winfield Kansas/ World War II Veterans’ Home. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Reola Colbert, sister- Francis Colbert-Trent and older brother- James Colbert. Michael is survived by his sons and grandchildren; Michael A Colbert and Nancy Colbert- children- Lexi, Desmond, Jasmine, Mikal, Demetrius, Amarae, Kameelah, and Noah. James Colbert- child- Korbin Colbert. Michael McGill Sr.-child-Michael McGill Jr. Michael departs from sisters- Janet Rowland (Al), Barbara J. Freeman (James), brother-s Reginald Colbert (Susan), Braxton Colbert (Clare), sister-in-law Lenora Colbert, First cousin- Darrell Hardin, and a host of Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, and Dear Friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 8, 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Linwood Chapel. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 10:00am-11:00am at the chapel.
