Mr. Melburn D. Boswell

Obituary Melburn DeVan Boswell began his life journey on May 28, 1963 in Kansas City, KS, as the youngest child of Clarence R. and Ruth C. Boswell. He was named after his paternal grandfather, Melburn Ransom. He accepted Christ at a young age. He was an apt student and a quick learner, Melburn (Mel) attended Quindaro Elementary, Northwest Junior High, Clark Middle School, and graduated in 1981 from Bonner Springs High School. He was multi-talented in many areas. Mel played the saxophone in Junior High and High School Band. Mel competed in many competitions and won many awards for his singing and dancing talents. In high school he decided he wanted to sing in the Choir and participated in theatrical music and plays, there he found his love. Thanks to his father, he was brought up with the teaching to never depend on one profession and also have a hustle on the side. Mel was a handyman, he worked his first job at Miller Hardware on 47th State Ave. and at Crown Center in a Ice Cream/Yogurt Store. He landed an acting job performing in several plays at Crown Center. He worked a Landscaping business with his best friend. Mel was a born entrepreneur and did everything but build a house. He was self-employed most of his latter years of his life until his health started failing him. Mel could put anything together and take it apart. He did sales, carpentry, pools, landscaping, decks, Christmas lights, etc. Everything was a project to him. Most of all he loved traveling, but cooking and baking was his specialty. Mel had a very creative mind, always finding ways to put a twist on recipes. He loved to serve it up when family came in town. He had a big heart and shared his talent’s with everyone. “Life, in Mel’s own words. . . .” I studied music and theatre in college, performance being my concentration, and afterwards I studied ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics, for 5 years as well. I performed in various Opera's, Ballet's and various dance and theatre performances at Avila College, Missouri Rep, Starlight, Municipal Auditorium, The Coterie Children's Theatre, and American Heartland Theatre just to name a few. I worked as a professional at that for God Know's too long here in the Midwest, and exhausted most of the theatre's here, plus I have done various commercials, and visitor videos...which have played for years at most local hotels in Kansas City, but I loved every minute of it. Of course I worked in regular jobs for years and years and actually worked three jobs for 5 years just to make end's meet, but those day's are over now,.....cause there's no time to enjoy life when you work it away, and there's nothing that you can achieve that can be bought with money that really means anything to me as far as I'm concerned now cause you can't take it with you. I reevaluated my life and decided to see what was out there for me and I found that I love to travel, and I try to visit a new place each year, but have found there are so many favorites I can't help but repeat, I love the ocean, most of all because I think a walk on the beach at sunset is as close as you can get to Gods Love for us all, so my favorite places to visit are Puerto Vallarta, Fort Lauderdale, New York, and of course California. and probably in that order. I plan to visit oversea's sometime soon, but I fear I may never return to the states. I am living in Kansas City for the time being but I am looking for the perfect place to retire, so any suggestions you have I would take into consideration. Let's see in terms of family life...I have none....well I mean I am single no children. I have two dog's, cat, and peacock that are my children I suppose. I have a construction company that I started in 2000 and that keep's me busy most of the time, I just wish it kept me out of trouble as well. Have had good and bad times like everyone else, and I hope I didn't bore you to death all this, but that's kinda what my life's like. Thanks for reading this. Mel" Mel departed this life on Wednesday July 27, 2022, at Saint Luke’s Hospice Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence R. and Ruth C. Boswell; one sister and one brother. He leaves to cherish his memories: his sister Cheree (Anthony, Sr.) Lee, brother, Clarence Boswell, Jr., nieces and nephews whom he cherished like his own children, Prentice (PJ) Watson, Cristal (Robert) Terry, Alicia McKoy, Anthony, Jr. (Anna) Lee, Talisa Boswell, and Taylor Graves. Two aunts, Joyce Stewart and Florence Boswell, and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
