Maureen Brooks

Obituary Maureen L. Brooks was born to Paul Berton Brooks and Mary Oglesby Brooks on January 13, 1919 in Monticello, Arkansas. She was the fourth of five children. She left her earthly home and entered eternal peace on Sunday, July 29, 2018 in Belton, Missouri. Maureen spent her early childhood in Monticello, Arkansas. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended the First Baptist Church in Monticello. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1926. There she attended Palestine Baptist Church. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School. After high school, she worked various jobs including being employed for several years at Lackland Air Force Base. Maureen moved to Denver, Colorado where she furthered her education at the Community College. In Denver, she was employed at a Children’s speech Pathology School. She later returned to San Antonio, Texas to care for her mother, Ms. Mary Brooks. In the late 1970’s, she and her mother moved to Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Mason Memorial United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kansas and in 2007 she joined St. James United Methodist Church, Kansas City, Missouri. At St. James, she faithfully attended Sunday worship services and Wednesday mid-day bible study and fellowship. She loved her Bible study group and attended until her health began to fail. However, she continued to remain in contact with various members of her St. James church family. Maureen was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mary and Paul Brooks, her brothers, William Brooks and James Lavert Brooks, her sisters, Juanita (Brooks) Foster and Marvia Nell (Brooks) Thompson, and her nephew, Reverend Nelson “Fuzzy” Thompson. Maureen leaves to cherish her memory her niece, Terry Lynn (Brooks) Ray; two grandnieces, Ashley Nicole Ray and Brandi-Dionne Burney; two great-nephews and one great-niece. In addition, her loving guardian and friend, Mary L. Ward, relatives and caring friends. Funeral Service for Mrs. Maureen Brooks will be held Wednesday, August 8, 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 5540 Wayne Ave. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
