Obituary MARY ROSEBURR Mary E. Roseburr, was born in Cleveland, Arkansas, the fifth child to the union of Daniel and Marie Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Israel Roseburr, Sr., her parents; Daniel and Marie (Archie) Moore, step mother; Ora L. (Evans) Moore; two sisters: Glennie Moore and Osceola (Moore) Byers; two brothers: James E. Moore and Hosie Evans; and a great granddaughter; Whitney D. Rainey. Mrs. Roseburr is best known for her love for people. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 27:9, where she acknowledges, “God has been her help.” Her favorite song and mottos are “If I Can Help Somebody Along My Way.” The words of John Wesley sums up her daily walk – “do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in every place you can, all the times you can, to everyone you can, as long as you can”-and leave the rest to God.” She received her childhood education at Liberty Springs Grade School in Cleveland, AR through the fifth grade. In 1941, her parents moved to Kansas City, Missouri, traveling over 600 miles in a Model “T” Ford. Her early education continued in Kansas City with her attending several grade schools before graduating from R.T. Coles Vocational High School in 1949 with a diploma in education and a Certificate in sewing. After high school, she attended Penn Valley Community College. At the age of 12, she and her brother developed a business venture, selling the KC Call paper. They would set their station up at 12th and Olive St., calling out “Kansas City Call-get your Call Paper.” The cost was only $.10 cents per paper, but the business was prosperous. Not only a business minded person, she was very active in various sports. Mrs. Roseburr joined Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in 1941. The church was located at 1805 Woodland and was under the leadership of Rev. S.D. Martin. She joined the Junior Choir and Usher Board. Discovering her passion of ushering, she left the choir and became very active as a usher. She served as President of the Senior Usher Board and as an instructor and sponsor of the Junior Usher Board. She has been a member of the United Usher Board Incorporated of Missouri. Mrs. Roseburr is lovingly remembered for her devotion and training to generations of children at Metropolitan. Her Christian education work began under Helen Maupin in the 1950’s. In 1961 Rev. O.D. Carson organized the Children’s Department at Metropolitan an persuaded her to become its first Director. During this time, she married the love of her life, Mr. Israel Roseburr, Sr., on July 29, 1950 and to this union they were blessed with four children: Georgia Faye Rainey, Sylvester “Bean” Roseburr, Israel “Isie Bud” Roseburr, Jr., and Angela Renee Roseburr. They shared a love that expanded sixty-seven (67) years of love, faith, and commitment to God, one another, family and service to others. Mrs. Roseburr served in many positions at both the local and district levels of our church. She served as Director for Children, Youth and Young Adults and as a Sunday School teacher of the Youth department. She was an active member of our local Lay Council and has been Chairperson of the Metropolitan Ministries since its onset in 1983. Over the years, Mrs. Roseburr has been active in various Missionary Societies, including “Church Women United.” Her list of employment includes: Silver and Standard Laundry’s, Crown & Katz Drug Stores, Monark & Standard Egg Plant and the Kansas City School District. She was active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Salvation Army. In the 80’s, the Eta Zeta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri named her as one of their “Women of the Year.” Mary E.Roseburr leaves to cherish her precious memory: two sons: Sylvester “Bean” Roseburr (Joyce) of Kansas City, MO and Israel “Isie Bud” Roseburr, Jr. (Cathy) of Nolensville, TN; two daughters: Georgia Faye Rainey and Angela Renee’ Roseburr Ross of Kansas City, MO; two sisters: Gloria Johnson of Kansas City, KS; and Denise Renee Moore Brown (Gregory) of Baton Rouge, LA; two sister-in-laws: Mrs. Loyse McClunie and Mrs. Mary C. Roseburr of Kansas City, MO. Five grandchildren: Marcia “Sweetie” (Rainey) Hervey of Little Rock, AR; Clayton “Punchie” Rainey of Morrilton, AR; Damon Ross, Sr., of Kansas City, MO; Tiffany and Rodney Roseburr of Nolensville, TN; four great-grandchildren: Damon “Dada” Ross, Jr., of Kansas City, MO, Taylor “Tay-Tay” , Tahj Israel Roseburr of Nolensville, TN; and Daja Marie Ross of Kansas City, MO. Aunt Mary was very special and loved by her families nieces and nephews of Osceola (Moore) Byers children; Ernest McClunie children; Preston Moore children, Jonas Moore children and Juanita Byers children. Her god children, Stanley Williams, Yolanda Wyatt, DeSean Wyatt, LeAnna Wyatt and Kristen Wyatt, Marla and Malik Sandifer; Debra Payne; Bruce, Thomasine and Bryce Spence; Caron Williams; Valerie (Hubbard) Broils; Michelle Rucker; Aaron Cark; Lauren Brown; Terri (Jones) McMillian; and Tony Gunells. She had a special friend, Mrs. Teretha Simmons. A host of cousins too numerous to mention but not forgotten. To God be the glory for the legacy she has left behind!
