Ms. Mary V. Adams

Mary V. Adams was born to the union of William D. Coffield and Mary L. Walker in Waverly, Tennessee. She accepted Christ at a young age and remained a devoted member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas, where she worshipped faithfully until her passing. She was a member of the last graduating class of Porch Reed High School in Waverly, Tennessee, where she graduated in 1964. In 1968, Mary moved from Waverly to Kansas City, Missouri, with the hope of building a better life for herself and her family. It was there where she eventually met the love of her life, Raymond E. Adams. The two shared a life full of love, laughter, and deep devotion until his passing. Mary retired from Hallmark Cards, after many years of working throughout the Kansas City area in the field of culinary arts, where she displayed her true talent. But her true passion was preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. Known for her fun-loving spirit and warm heart, her personality was one you usually would never forget. Mary touched so many lives through her faith, sense of humor, and she was never too shy to tell it like “it is”, especially when giving advice to the younger generation. Affectionately known as, “Chief”, she was the life of the party, a trusted mentor, and a source of wisdom to many. Her home was always open, her support unwavering, and her love for her family limitless. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Adams; her son, Rodney D. Coleman; and her siblings, Frances Mays; Donnie Mayberry; Herman Mayberry; Peggy Mayberry; Perry Mayberry; and Connie Mayberry; all of Waverly, Tennessee. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her children, Kim Okoye; Bridgett “Bebe” Starks; Valerie Chase (Robert); Rachelle Adams; and William “BoBo” L. Adams Sr.; all of Kansas City, Missouri; her grandchildren, Yolanda Mayberry; NaToshia Draper; Marianne Okoye-Thomas (Kirk); Brittney McGee; Patrick “Chike” Okoye, Jr.; DeMarcus McGee; Shelby Harris; William L. Adams Jr.; Whitney “Possum” Adams; and Jordan Adams; her great-grandchildren, Micah “Lucky” Mayberry; Eden Stokes-Okoye; Aiden Draper; William L. “Trip” Adam III; Isaiah Okoye; Ismael Okoye; Zion Falls; Asim Adams; Harlem Draper; and Willow Adams; her great-great-grandchildren, Dru Mayberry; and Duke Mayberry; she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends (too numerous to mention). She will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday July 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 3935 Prospect Ave. KCMO 64130. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 10:00am – 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A.
