Ms. Marvis D. Markham

Marvis D. Markham, 81, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on July 13, 2026. She was born on November 5, 1944, to Donzell Markham. Marvis graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1962. She continued her education at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. Following graduation, she began a distinguished 33-year career with the Kansas City Public School District. She spent the majority of her teaching career inspiring and educating students at Faxon and Marlborough Elementary Schools. Committed to lifelong learning, Marvis later earned a master's degree from Webster University. She retired from education in 1999, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues. Marvis was preceded in death by her grandparents, Addie Mae Smith and Ulysses J. Smith; her mother, Donzell Markham; and her aunt, Neil Markham. Family was at the center of Marvis's life. She treasured spending time with her loved ones and enjoyed opening her home to family, friends, and neighbors for gatherings filled with laughter, card games, and fellowship. Her love and guidance extended beyond her children, as she played an active and devoted role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, unwavering support, and the sense of community she created wherever she went. Marvis leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Michael Scott, Amina Scott-Martin, and Daima Scott; six grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Whitney Chandler, Robert Martin Jr., Razja Martin, Dalila Scott, and Dyshawn Johnson III; five great-grandchildren, Aneah Martin, Aneesah Martin, Robert Martin III, Dyshawn Johnson V, and Dashawn Johnson; along with her brother, William “Billy” Markham; cousin, Venita “Gee” Leverette; nieces, nephews, and a host of other beloved relatives and dear friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ 2422 Van Brunt Blvd. KCMO 64128. Interment: Mount Moriah Cemetery.
