Mr. Levance Jordan

Levance J. Jordan was born November 15, 1922, in Kansas City, Kansas to Melonee and Sam William Jordan. His parents; his wife, Lucille (Carr) Jordan; his son, Levance A. Jordan; his step-son, Talmadge Chinn; his brother, Samuel W. Jordan Sr. and his sister, Helen E. Marshall; all preceded him in death. LeVance grew up in the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas. After leaving school he was inducted into the United States Navy on February 22, 1943. He was part of the original crew of the U.S.S. Shangri-La aircraft carrier. He actively served overseas in World War II until the end of the war. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy on December 15, 1945. On March 25, 1948 he joined the US Naval Reserve and received a second Honorable Discharge from the Navy on January 10, 1956. LeVance felt that he could be more successful in life if he was self-employed. He proved during the course of his life that having a trade, along with patience and hard work, could lead to success and financial freedom. He enjoyed working on cars so he went to school an became a certified auto mechanic. As technological advances came about in the production of automobiles over the years, he realized that he would need more training. On April 8, 1965, he completed training for Automotive Engine Testing. As time went on LeVance decided to get involved in other trades. On June 9, 1969, he became a Certified Member of National Alarm Security as a Registered N.A.S. Burglar Alarm Installer. Next, he decided that he wanted to become a locksmith. He received a diploma from the Locksmithing Institute as a professional locksmith on December 17, 1971. On November 24, 1981, Vans Checker Service was certified as a member of the Chamber of Commerce. For several years LeVance owned two service stations simultaneously. His primary service station was located on the northeast corner of 34th and Prospect, KCMO. The other station was on the northeast corner of 30th and Prospect, KCMO. There were other accomplishments and businesses, too many to mention. As a result, his businesses were a source of employment for others in the community. Mr. Jordan's advice for those who can't afford to attend a four-year college or university is to “Learn A Trade”. LeVance J. Jordan passed away on Monday, March 31, 2024. He leaves behind his 103-year-old sister, Marie Strickland; his nephew, Sam Jordan Jr.; his niece, Lisa Riddle (Frank); great nephews, Ronnie Spears; Eddie Jordan; and Damont Jordan; his brother-in-law William Carr; and his wife Dennie. Visitation will be held on Friday April 11, 2025, from 8:30-9:00 a.m. at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Chapel Funeral Chapel 1800 East Linwood Blvd. KCMO 64109.
