Obituary Lenolyia Porter was born on March 25, 1937, in Springfield, Ohio to Louis Phillips and Grace Jackson. She was the third of five children.Mrs. Porter spent the majority of her life in the state of Ohio, living in the cities of Springfield and Columbus. Mrs. Porter was always a very hard worker. Her longest tenures of employment were with Grossman Industries and Schottenstein Corporation, as an employee in the garment industry. Mrs. Porter moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 2006 where she became a member of Harvest Church International Outreach. She was also a dedicated Nursery Teacher at Harvest Christian School until she retired. She displayed a deep passion for caring for babies. Mrs. Porter’s favorite pass time was listening to old school gospel music. Most of all, she enjoyed watching daily her eldest, son Bishop Steve Houpe, on YouTube, singing “You’re Amazing.” Mrs. Porter was revered as a classy lady, who loved to dress and accessorize, with her hats and her jewelry. She took great pleasure in shopping. Her greatest joy was showing love to everyone she met. She often gave of her time and finances, to anyone who was in need. Whether it was monetary, a shoulder to cry on, or a listening ear, Mrs. Porter was there for you. On countless occasions, she would check on those who were ill. When she was no longer physically able to go in person, she would phone to show her love and support. She knew no strangers and treated everyone she came in contact with the utmost respect, no matter their social status. She was honest and outspoken and you never had to question where you stood with her. Because of her kindhearted spirit, Mrs. Porter was affectionately referred to by many as mother, “Mom, Gram, Grandma, Mom Porter and Maw-maw. “She was loved and respected by all who met her. Mrs. Porter peacefully gained her wings on November 24, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis Phillips and Grace Jackson; her brothers Johnny and Stephen Phillips; her sister Juanita Piersoll; and her grandsons Christian Walker and Ronald Felder. Mrs. Porter leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Marla Burst of GA; her son Bishop Steve (Donna) Houpe of MO; her daughter Sandy Houpe (Dewayne) of OH; her son Gary Black of OH; and her son Pete (Nakisha) Porter of MO; her sister Grace Brown of CO; her fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and her seven great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. A Public visitation will be held on Fri., Dec 4, 2020 from 11 am- 1 pm at the Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd. KCMO 64130. Private services will be held at 2 pm.
