Mr. Lee Rockett, Sr.

Lee Rocket, Sr., passed away on Feb. 3, 2025. Lee Porter Rockett, Sr. was born on June 25, 1941, to the union of Joe Willie Rockett and Beatrice Turner Rockett, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The family moved to Richmond, California when Lee was one year old. At the age of 12, the family moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he attended and graduated from Saginaw High School in 1959. After completing high school, he decided to leave Saginaw and move to California but stopped through Kansas City, Missouri to visit his sister and loved it so much, he decided to stay. A few months later, he sent for his bride to be and love of his life, Geraldine Perine, to come to Kansas City and they were united in marriage on December 29, 1962. To this union three children were born, Rolonda Renee Richardson; Lee P Rockett, Jr.; and Belinda Marie Rockett. After attending two years of Business school, he entered the grocery business and became a Journeyman Meat Cutter as a member of Local 576 Meat Cutters Union. He retired after 42 years in the business. He was employed at M&Y Foods (Thriftway Metro Plaza) at the time of retirement. Lee accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Fellowship Baptist Church in 1972, where he sang in the Men’s Male Chorus. Lee loved his family and always enjoyed bar-b-queuing for any event. His specialty was brisket. He enjoyed the Kansas City Chiefs and was a season ticket holder for 20 years. In his later years, he loved traveling around Kansas City with his wife to see new developments all over the city and surrounding areas. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Joe Willie Rockett; his mother, Beatrice Robinson; brothers, Joe Willie Rockett; Jr, LeRoy Rockett; Louis Rockett; sisters, Ella Lee Williams; Geraldine Robinson; favorite uncle, Sam Earl Boyd; son, Lee P Rockett, Jr.; daughter, Belinda Marie Rockett; granddaughters, Krystal Rockett; and Diamond Rockett. Lee is survived by his wife, Geraldine Rockett; daughter, Renee Richardson (Marvin) Grandview, MO; granddaughter, Starlette Rockett-Brooks, Belton, MO; sisters, Jerry Moore (Glenn), Saginaw, MI; LeSenda Womack, Concord, CA; 5 great-grandchildren, ToMeaJoy Rockett; Major Brooks; William (Trey) Hill; Rockett Brooks; Legend Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church 7106 Prospect Ave. KCMO 64132. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery Visitation: 10-11:00 a.m. at the Church. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels.
