Larry D. Taylor

Obituary Mr. Larry Donnell Taylor, lovingly call Donnell, was born on February 25, 1954, in Duncan, Mississippi to Henry Dunn and Josephine Taylor. Larry departed this life on February 11, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. The family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1966. Larry accepted Christ at an early age and often spoke about being baptized in the river in Mississippi. He loved the Lord and worked in many area of the church, singing in the Male Chorus and serving as an Usher, Deacon, Cook, and Landscaper. Larry was noted for being adventurous and did lots of mischief behind the scenes often sharing colorful stories. Most astonishing was the fact that he actually picked cotton as a kid. He was loving, kind-hearted, friendly, and quiet spoken, but well respected by all who knew him. He never complained and smiled often and easily. People from all walks of life enjoyed being in his company. He had a wrathful side, but rarely displayed it unless continuously provoked. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, playing cards and dominoes. Larry attended the Kansas City Public Schools, then later join the United States Army, serving locally and overseas in Frankfurt, Germany. He mastered many specialties receiving medals, decorations, badges, commendations, citations, and campaign ribbons. As a Communication Lineman, Larry set up Field Communication. He also drove specialty trucks including a 5,000-gallon Fuel Tanker. Young recruits were drawn to him because of his vast knowledge and ease at leadership. He retired after twenty-five years of loyal service in 2000. An avid sportsman, Larry enjoyed playing basketball and football and was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was physically strong and often imitated moves made by wrestlers, boxers, and action heroes. He especially liked Martial Arts. Larry wore many hats and put 100% into whatever job he was doing, whether cooking/catering, operating heavy construction equipment, railroad, security, landscaping, or construction. Mr. Larry Donnell Taylor leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Phyllis Ray-Taylor; children: Cordellia (Joel), Michael (Gennie), Keith (Thais), Derrick, and Nicole (Theotis); Tressie Brown, mother of son, Larry Brown, Jr.; (Dameeka) and daughter, Kimmikka T.N. Brown; brothers; sisters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
