Mr. Larry Blount

Obituary Larry Joe Blount was born July 7, 1945 to the union of Frank and Marjorie Blount and he was the youngest of four sons. Greeting him in Heaven is his wife JoElla (Josie) both his parents, Ben and Marjorie Doyle, his biological father, Frank Blount Sr.; three brothers, Frank Blount, Dwayne Blount, Gerald Blount; Sister, Maxine Doyle-Green; sister-in-law Eleanor Blount, mother-In-Law and father-in-law, Theodore and Christine Smith, one grandson, Craig DeAngelo Dudley and his son-in-law, Terry Wilson. He resided in Kansas City, Missouri for the majority of his life and graduated from Manual High School in 1964. In 1966, Larry married JoElla Lewis and to this union, two daughters, Laura and Dawn were born. Larry also had a son Michael from a previous relationship. Larry and JoElla were married for more than 50 years until JoElla’s death in 2016. Larry was a dedicated husband and father who was employed by General Motors in the states of Kansas, Missouri and Ohio. He retired from General Motors in 2006. Larry will be best remembered for his love of music and for being a dynamic drummer. He was a member of several bands throughout his lifetime, playing with some of Kansas City’s best musicians such as Everette DeVan, Horace Washington and Sonny Kenner. He continued playing drums up to the very end of his life, and he loved all types of music including jazz, blues, R & B, gospel, reggae, etc. He always kept his music close to him and would share his passion with anyone around him. Larry had a serious and life-long relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. As the head of his family, he stressed the importance of prayer, thanksgiving and worship. He had a genuine, gentle and kind spirit and loved family and friends unconditionally. Larry leaves to celebrate his life his daughters Laura Wilson and Dawn (Craig) Dudley; one son, Michael (Charlene) Blount; sister Debra Ann Doyle; grandsons, Terry Wilson, II, Crae Dudley, Caylon Dudley; granddaughters, Cierra Blount, Ariel Blount & Brooklyn Blount, great-grandchildren, DeAngelo Dudley, Aiva Dudley, and Ari Rose Dudley, Kiyara Dudley; sister-in-laws Tomalee Blount and Charmaine Lewis; nieces Gerri Rhonda Blount-Kennedy, Ronica Jefferson, Brandy (Michael) Cann, Diamond Lewis, Carolyn Walker and Saidah Blount; nephews, Tynell and LaRon Blount; cousins Robert Collier, Berniece Collier, Cynthia Garrett, Charlesetta Burrell, Lillie Collier, Darryl Carlis, Claude (Cheryl) Bumpus of Des Moines, Iowa, Denise, Jewett of Demoines, Iowa and Teresa Hamilton of Cooper City, Florida, and his best friend (brother) for more than 60 years, John Wilson and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, 11:00am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Private Disposition. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
