Kenneth Avery Peters, Sr.

Obituary Kenneth Avery Peters, Sr. was born on February 17, 1963, in Kansas City, Missouri to John L. and Verestine Peters. He was the youngest sibling of the family, affectionately call “Tom” by his father. Kenneth departed this life on February 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, John L. Peters. Kenneth was baptized at an early age. He was a member of Progressive Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and sang in the Choir. He attended Greenwood Elementary School and graduated from East High School in the Class of 1981. He attended and received his Associates Degree from Penn Valley Community College. Kenneth started a long and illustrious career at Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Missouri. He held numerous positions while working there. After thirty years, he retired from Penn Valley Community College in 2016. Penn Valley presented his with a grand retirement celebration. While at Penn Valley, he met many colleagues and made many friendships. Kenneth also worked many years at the Hyatt Regency Hotel of Kansas City, Missouri. He loved to travel. By working for the hotel industry, he was able to take wonderful trips. While working for the Hyatt, he was awarded many commendations. On one occasion, he received “Employee of the Year”. With this award he won an all-expense paid trip for two one he chose the beautiful Islands of Hawaii as his destination. After the Hyatt became Sheraton Hotel, he continued to work for them until his passing. Kenneth was a great singer, actor, and story teller. When telling his stories, they were filled with animation and sound effects. When he concluded, you would be doubling over in laughter. With his bass voice, he had a hearty laugh that was contagious. He was a great entertainer. He loved getting the family together for different celebrations. He always made certain there was enough food for everyone. He was a very generous and giving man. No one was a stranger to him and he would be your friend for life. He was loved by all that encountered him. Kenneth Avery Peters, Sr. is survived by his mother, Verestine Peters; his son, Kenneth A. Peters, Jr.; siblings: Terranie Murphy, Michelle Armstrong, Ronna Kay Peters, Rickey (Karen) Peters, and Kathy Peters; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service for Kenneth Avery Peters, Sr. will be held Saturday, February 24, 11:00 a.m. at New Vision Christian Church, 9101 Blue Ridge Blvd. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
