Obituary 1 Peter: 5 “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” Judith A Johnson was born August 12, 1938, to Jack White and Lucille Major in Arkansas City, Kansas. Both preceded her in death. Uncles Preceded in Death; James Major, David Major, Joe Major. Aunts Preceded in Death; Alice Major Morris, Helen Berry, Alberta Shackelfoot. Cousins Preceded In death; Charles Major, Sue Shackelfoot, Helen Marie Shackelfoot, Freddie Shackelfoot. Judy attended Arkansas City Public Schools She met the love of her life Arthur B Johnson Sr, and a bond was formed. They married September 14, 1956, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Judy and Arthur moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1956 and to this union three sons were born, Arthur B Johnson Jr, Gregory White Johnson and Christopher Scott Johnson. She accepted Christ at a young age and never strayed from her faith. Judy and Arthur joined fellowship with Jamison Memorial Temple CME, where she served in the Nursery Ministry until her illness. She remained a member until her transition to Glory. Judy was an accomplished bowler. She bowled at King Louie and Melody Lanes in Kansas City, Missouri where she formed many long- lasting relationships. She was the recipient of the Woman Bowler of the Year award several times during this period as well as being the recipient of many trophies. She volunteered as a bowling coach. She also served as a teacher’s aide at Richardson Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri where her children attended. Judy received a kidney transplant in 1997 and was named as Transplant Patient of the year. She subsequently had to return to dialysis and became a patient at DCI Kidney Dialysis in Kansas City, Missouri. She was a model patient. She had the most pleasing attitude and was always the same. People always looked forward to conversing with her. Judy was sweet, kind and could be sassy when she needed to be. She cared deeply for others and never judged. Judy always loved sharing recipes. She could stay on the phone for hours recalling the measurements of the ingredients she used to bake a special something. She had books galore. She was a member of the Wabash Block Club and served as Treasurer for many years. She always stayed up on current events and was an avid basketball fan. Her favorite teams were The Golden State Warriors and KU College Men’s Basketball. She would be proud of their recent win and would be beaming from ear to ear. Judy loved Gospel music and could listen all day. Her favorites were Mahalia Jackson and Aretha Franklin. As she took her last breaths she was listening to Mahalia. She also enjoyed Blues and Jazz. Her favorite was B.B. King. Judy departed this life on April 2nd, 2022, at Research Medical Center to be with the Lord. She was surrounded by her family. It was a beautiful moment as we witnessed her enter into her peaceful transition and eternal rest in glory. She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband of 65 years Arthur B Johnson, Sr of the home. Three sons, Arthur B Johnson Jr (Brenda), Gregory White Johnson and Christopher Scott Johnson, all of Kansas City, Missouri. Four Grandchildren, Brandi A. Artis (Brittany), Brandon Finch Sr., Deja Finch and Shaneice Finch. Nine Great-grandchildren, Britton Artis, Braylei Artis, Kimora Finch, Kariyah Finch, Khloe Williamson, Brooklynn Finch, Demi Finch, Brandon Finch Jr, and expecting grandchild. Close cousins, Ada Johnson, Doris Major, Rhonda Morris, Glenda Brantley, Denise Thompson, Brian Major, Dr. David Major, Willie Joe Major. Special friends, Barbara Finch, Deborah Love, Leona Hamilton, Stephanie White, Ripcord Rogers, Laura Townsend, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. We are but vessels that carry our souls. While our vessels fall away, our souls shall remain always. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 15, 2022, 1:00pm at Jamison Memorial CME Temple. Interment Monday, April 18, 2022, 10am Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
