Obituary Celebration of a Life Well Lived Jeannine Morrison, the eighth child of the union of the late Otto and Elizabeth K. Morrison was born on August 4, 1948 in Kansas City, KS. As a child Jeannine attended Thompson Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in Kansas City, KS under the pastorate of the late Supt. J. E. Thompson. She received Christ at an early age and was gifted with musical talents. Jeannine received her formal education in the Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO school systems. After high school she attended nursing school and graduated with honors in 1970 as a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Kansas City Practical Nurse Vocational School. Her nursing career spanned more than 40 years. In her early 20’s Jeannine became a member of Boone Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in Kansas City, MO, and served under the late Pastor Floyd H. Thuston and current pastor, Bishop L. F. Thuston. Jeannine blossomed at Boone Tabernacle, and it wasn’t long before she was known as an anointed songbird. She had a powerful voice and sang with the local, district, state and national choirs. She was a songwriter, choir director, and was a self-taught pianist. She served as the Minister of Music for 35 years. Under her leadership the Boone Tabernacle United Choir recorded a 45 record, Only the Righteous. They also recorded an album entitled, Time to be For Real. Sister Jeannine was the principle composer for the album. During choir rehearsals she was known to say, “Open up your mouth and sing!” The choir began to travel extensively which led many souls to Christ. Jeannine’s gift of song not only made room for her locally but nationally as well. During the 1980 United National Auxiliary Convention (UNAC) of the Church of God in Christ, she presented one of her original compositions (Psalm 117) and was the featured vocalist under the leadership of the legendary, Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark. She enjoyed traveling to church conventions, especially to the annual COGIC Women’s International Convention with her sister, Joyce. She would pack weeks in advance and would have the neatest and most organized suitcase. Although music ministry was Jeannine’s first love, she also served in other capacities within the church. She served as a Pastor’s Aid committee member and YWCC/CWC member. She charted the very 1st bus from Boone Tabernacle to UNAC. She also sponsored multiple “Tom Thumb Wedding” fundraisers for the music ministry and Pastor’s Aid committee. In her later days she was a faithful participant in the Missionary prayer line. Jeannine loved the work of the Lord and his people. She loved Boone Tabernacle and her God parents, Pastor Floyd and Mother Roberta Thuston so much, she recruited her entire family to attend church with her! Family was extremely important to Jeannine. She looked forward to special family gatherings throughout the year-- especially the holidays. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she was the “Queen of Christmas in July,” because that’s when she started purchasing gifts for everyone, yes, everyone!! Family, friend, or foe, no one left her house without a gift! She personally wrapped every one of them, and most of them were very nice, and some she would say were from her favorite “junk” store! Oh yes, Jeannine loved to go “junkin”, and all junk was created equal, so she never wanted to part with anything. She collected everything from baby dolls to stuffed animals. Her family and friends won’t soon forget her beloved stuffed dog and adopted son, Ralph Eddy. Some of Jeannine’s favorite hobbies were cooking, traveling, shopping, going to the grocery store, and decorating. She always knew where everything was in the grocery store and she was known for her pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese icing and her green bean casserole. She always enjoyed buying new linens for her bathrooms and bedrooms. Everything was always meticulously matched. In the Morrison family practical joking is a past time. At one-time Jeannine owned a yellow Cadillac, which she called Jake and it had no working air conditioner. Jake was the place for many practical jokes for her nieces and nephews! She was also the best storyteller and enjoyed laughing at her own stories as much as the people listening to them. Her laughter was so contagious and once she started, it was hard for her to stop! Jeannine’s life was a life well lived. Despite her trials, she was a champion of faith. She transitioned to glory on May 10, 2021. Although she’s gone, she will never be forgotten. Preceding her to glory are her parents; Otto and Elizabeth Morrison; four sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Laura Faye Young, Lenora Roberson, and Florence Morrison; four brothers, Stephen Morrison, William O. Morrison, Jerry Morrison, and Lawrence Morrison. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving siblings, Joyce Wyatt-Dixon (Roosevelt) Kansas City, KS; Tracy Morrison (Brenda) Kansas City, MO; and Floretta Houston (Bobby) Kansas City, MO; Tommy Molden (Sharon), Kansas City, KS; her brother-in-law, Floyd Martin (Sacramento, CA); her close friends, Crecia Andrews (Don), Helen Hudson (Dwight), and Jan McClain, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021, 11:00am at Boone Tabernacle COGIC. Interment TBA. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A.
