Ms. Jean Essex

Obituary Jean Essex, passed away on august 15, 2022, at the home. Born July 25,1926, in Topeka, KS to Freda Brickey and Tom Burdette. She was raised in Topeka, KS and matriculated through the public education system. She married her high school sweetheart, James Neal. This union which was late dissolved produced one child Joyce. She was then married to Jessie Essex. This union produced one child Tanya. She relocated to Kansas City, MO with her husband Jessie who worked for the Santa Fe Railroad headquarted in Kansas City. Retiring from Menorah Medical Center after 25 years of service she then worked part-time for Foster Grandparents and Scattered Site Housing. Known for her sharp style of dress few knew that she was an avid thrifter what she called "junking" long before it was popular. A fun loving people person she loved being around family and friends, playing cards and penny bingo, talking about old times and current events and getting hugs and kisses from her grandkids and great-grands. During her later years she decided to downsize and move to the Vine Street Manor at Bethel where she met a new set of friends to socialize with eventually uniting with the Bethel AME Church. She was preceded in death by both parents, two sisters Gertrude Poston and Roberta Parsons, one niece Marva Poston, one nephew Kenneth Horn and one great-nephew Kyle Williams. She departed this life August 2022, at home with her daughter Tanya at her side. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters Joyce Baker (Keith) Tanya Nero, four grandchildren Michelle Boggan (Shannon) Keisha Frazier (Timothy) Anthony Nero (Natasha) and Milikia McCartey (Dupree) six great-grandchildren, Nylah Boggan, Nasia Boggan, London Nero, Sierra Nero, Apollo Dolor and Kanan Frazier, a friend like a daughter Barbara Webb and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held at the Lawrence A. Jones Linwood Chapel Wednesday August 24th visitation 9AM until 11AM service at 11AM. Burial Forest Hill Cemetery. Mask wearing is appreciated.
