Mr. James Dodds I

The family of James "Jimmy" Darryll Dodds I announces with deep sadness his unexpected passing on June 8, 2026. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1963, James graduated from Washington High School in 1980 and later served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a gifted entertainer, DJ, and communicator whose presence and personality left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He dedicated much of his life to his family and community. A devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his children Tyuania D. Dodds, Shenise S. Boyd, Areiona D. King, James D. Dodds II, and Jamill E. Dodds; and his grandchildren Aniya J. Dodds, Lelah S. Dodds, and Tyler C. Sabljak. He was a loving caregiver and advocate, especially for his son Jamill, who lived with sickle cell disease. James built a long career in public service, including more than 17 years with the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. He later pursued work in sports media and entertainment, including on-air roles and independent creative projects. In his later years, he created and hosted his own livestream YouTube series, JimSpiracy, where he interviewed guests and explored thought-provoking and unconventional topics, showcasing his humor, curiosity, and distinctive voice. He also frequently supported other creatives & read to KCK classrooms, via Jegna Klub community organization. He is preceded in death by his father, stepfather, brother, nephew, and several close family members. He is survived by his mother, siblings, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many loved ones who will remember his humor, generosity, and larger-than-life spirit. All he impacted near & wide will miss him deeply and remember him always. May the endless laughter, lessons and memories comfort & guide us all. Jimmy may have left the stage, but never our hearts. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Grove Baptist Church 1417 North 9th Street KCKS 66101. Interment: Bonner Springs Cemetery.
