In loving memory of James Thomas Dawn Sr., who peacefully departed this world on December 11, 2024, at the age of 91. Beloved Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend. James lived a life rich in love, dedication, and kindness. Born on January 4, 1933, in Bearden Arkansas, James was the cherished child of Hazel Flint and Jerry Dawn. From an early age, James demonstrated a spirited zeal for life, which became a guiding light for all who knew him. His hardworking nature afforded him the accomplishment of retiring from General Motors and Crown Center. His jovial energy touched countless lives. James shared his life with Janie Dawn for 25 beautiful years. They built a life filled with joy, laughter, and resilience. Together, they raised their bonus daughter Jolene Abernathy and shared a love for Kim Brooks, their 2nd bonus daughter. As a parent, James was known for his unwavering dedication and selfless nature. James' heart was a wellspring of generosity, and he believed in the power of kindness above all else. He had a gift for gardening, fishing and cooking, bringing immense joy to both himself and those lucky enough to be part of his world. His Favorite bible chapter was the 23rd Psalms. His favorite song was "Nobody's Fault but Mine" by The Blind Boys of Alabama. James was proceeded in death by his siblings RH Dawn, Lee (Strolly) Dawn, Samual Dawn, Gertman Dawn, Peter Dawn, Carlton (Sugar Boy) Dawn, Booker T. Dawn, Joseph Dawn, Vean Butler, Maedell Parham, Oradell Moore, Betty Amy and Ruth. James leaves behind a legacy of love that is resilient and enduring. He is survived by his wife, Janie Betts-Dawn Lee’s Summit Missouri, his two sons James Thomas Dawn II (Gail) England Arkansas, Kenneth Dawn (Paulette) Greenwood Missouri., daughter Cynthia Standley (Leo) Kansas City Kansas, step son Ronald (Kecha) Atlanta Georgia, siblings Frank Dawn (Fanny) Arkansas, Priscilla (Rev. Maurice) Ricks Dallas Texas and Lettie (Donald) Steven Camden Arkansas, special Nephew LH Dawn (June) Kansas City Kansas, special Niece Maxine Wilkins Antioch California and countless grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family. James accepted Christ into his life at an early age at Holly Grove Baptist Church. James served in Male Chorus at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful Servant until his health declined. Though James has left this world, the indelible impact he made will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, 11am at Mt. Vernon MBC. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens - KCK. Visitation from 10am-11am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
